Hi,
I've just fitted a Punto 1242cc 8V engine into my Cinq. sporting, using your superb forum for all the help that I needed! I also obtained the Punto wiring loom and ECU. It is obviously mapped/ programmed for the Punto engine, so is there any advantage in using this ECU? I notice that the ECU connector plugs are not compatible, but I am sure that I could work out the wiring from circuit diagrams.. Another strange occurance :- I have two Cinq. sportings and the ECU in one of them just wouldn't allow the fuel pump to run... no way! So I swopped them between the two cars, with the result that the first car now DID work and the fuel pump ran, BUT SO DID THE OTHER, WITH THE APPARENTLY FAULTY ECU !!! Well, can ANYONE give me an explanation for that, please? .... because I haven't got a clue! thanks for your help.....David

no advantage to using the punto ECU. the cinq ecu is adaptive and will run the 1242 fine once it's had a chance to settle.

re the other ecus.. fuel pump cut off sounds like the imobiliser - did you swap the whole lot over (ie code box, key etc) cos if not, the imobiliser will kick in!

Hello Arc,
It DID appear to be just a fauly ECU, but when I simply swapped them between two cars, the apparent faulty ECU worked O.K. in the OTHER car!. I just can't explain it! No immobiliser fitted, I think..... the extra key that I got on the ring must have been a mechanical locking device!
Thanks for showing such an interest in my "woes"!!

I was told that a stock 1242cc ECU would be be slightly better than the stock 1108cc... re-mapped there's no difference... or is that MPI only?
