Lo all,

First of all, want to say what a cool forum. Before i start, i just want to apologise if i am covering old ground, i have looked at a few old posts via the search feature but i still have a few questions i would like to fire at you fine people.

Better actually tell you what i got eh? Two days ago i toke posession of a grey 1996 Cinq Sport 1.1 with only 18,000 on the clock. I paid £500 for it from the mother-in-law ( only had two owners and previous owner before that was my GF so i know its been treated ok ) and Im already in love. Im just gettign to grips with the fact this thing is only a 1.1 as it really does shift!! :D

Anywho, here are my questions:

1. The obligatory induction kit question. How hard is it to fit? (may have to draft in my mate who has fitted one before) And why do you guys hate K + N ? All the chavs round my manor swear by them and i was thinking of picking one up to be honest. Alternate suggestions would be welcomed.

2. Chipping. Checked another post to find out my '96 Cinq ECU isnt soldered so chipping isnt so much grief, however can you suggest one for me? Is the McKRich one really any good? Just after minimal perfomance gains and good reliability to be honest. Who makes this one: https://www.fiatforum.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3794

3. Can these parts be easily removed and the originals put back on when it comes to selling the vehicle?

All i want to do is give my new found love a teeny bit more Oomph, and my budget is around the £150-170 mark. Dont really want to melt the engine, just want to give your average focus driver a wee bit of a shock at the lights or when im on the A2. If i bought the induction kit and McKRich's chip, would i notice a nice performance gain without drastically shortening the life of the engine?

Again i really apologise for these noob questions, I have only been driving 2.5 yrs and this is my first proper car. Went into Halfords for the first time yesterday to buy car cleaning gear and i was just totally over-whelmed LOL .Any help or advice or chat about previous experinces would be extremely helpful. Many thanks :)

K&N is easy to fit, comes with instructions, some folks won't go past the GSR but at £100 or over you have to have the cash.

Mckrich chip is good cos it's £42 as where a superchip can be £250, you can see the where the logic is here.

It will give a difference, not huge but noticeable, I would hunt down a cheap back box too as I thought that made my cinq go better.

But before all this I would do some servicing and change that cambelt even though it won't damage the engine it could get you stuck in the middle of nowhere or cause and accident.

Welcome to the forum and a word of advice, Halfords or Halfrauds is a rip off, same stuff if not better in your local motor factors for half the price.

Liam

Had a full service before i bought it. Many thanks for the comments Liam. Thoought about paying a bit extra and getting the Pipercross indcution kit instead.

The k+N isnt very good on the 1108 engine, it doesnt allow cold air in as well as other kits, therefore doesnt work as well as others. Its been covered about the K+N have a search on forum(y) The GSR is the daddy though for the cinq

Parts can be fitted when de modding when it comes to sale, although its not like modern cars where you can interchange parts in matter of minutes

depends if this will be your only modding expenditure.ideal world would be Mk chip,GSR,exhaust,75 cam and tricker TB.
way over budget though.if its for £150 all in keep an eye on ebay, classifieds for an airfilter and back box plus the chip.back box wont do much but it will sound faster ;)
i think there may be a home made induction set up for sale soonish but not 100% yet

I only seem to beable to find the Pipercross filter online, could someone post a link of the GSR kit please?

Many thanks for all your help.

you need to PM a member called 'oldschool' who makes them and who will supply one for you.

Currently on holiday so may not get a reply for a few days (y)

Pipercross no good then? Thanks for the advice Applesei, will wait with baited breath for oldschool to return from his holidays . . . . . . . :D

It is probably better than the std intake but the main thing with the induction kit is it needs feeding with lots of cold air.

The GSR design puts the intake in a good place in the engine bay to get a good air feed and then feeds this smoothly to the TB, it is worth the wait.

Check out Trickers 40mm TB in the meantime as these make a load of difference to the performance, sometimes they do come up in the classifieds
