Hi all. I have a 53 Sei with a bit of warranty left on it and the exhaust went on it the other day. The exhaust has totaly come apart behind the front flexi. The rest of the system is in ex condition (no rust) and it looks like the weld has gone.
I ran it into Desira in Great Yarmouth (who i've had trouble with in the past!) to check if my warranty coverd it. They said no way and that it would cost me £365 to fix. I asked them why it would cost so much and they claimed they would need to replace the cat as well!!! I was like "WTF.....the front flexi and all that are separate to the f**king cat...why do you need to replace it?" Answer....."Because we do"
I was warned that if i went and had an exhaust fitted anywhere other than Desira then i would void my warranty. I went off in a huff and got a quote from a local exhaust specialist and was told it would cost me £100 all in and that the cat didn't need replacing and was told that Desira (Great Yarmouth) are a bunch of "F**ck wits who always love to try it on"
What is it with the main dealers trying to rip people off. Last time i used Desira was because one of my brake caliper had ceased. I had the work done on warranty, went to pick the car up and was told that the handbrake cable had snapped and it would cost me a shed load to fix....yet they had snapped it. I was told they couldn't do the work for a week and was advised to "leave the car in gear when you park". It took a few calls to Trading Standards to get them to fix it for free seeing they had messed it up.
GRRRRRRRR!!!!! I feel sorry for those people who go to their main dealer and trust that they will do a good job and believe what the dealer tells them. I can see some poor old lady forkin out £365 of her pension to have a job done (that didn't realy need doing) that would only cost her £100 if she went elsewhere.

Hmm. Now this is interesting. I just phoned Desira in Norwich (Heigham Street) who do all the warranty work for Norwich (which is about 20 miles from me) and they told me that it doesnt need a new cat and are going to put a claim in to see if my warranty would cover it. Thats more than what Great Yarmouth Desira would do. They didn't even check. The guy also said he couldn't see why Gt Yarmouth told me i'd need a new cat as it's not even included in the exhaust parts that needs to be orderd to do the work. The cat is a totaly separate exhaust component and doesn't need doing!!:bang: . Now i'm just waiting for a call back to see if it will be covered.

IMO I doubt the exhaust would be covered, I think on new cars the exhaust is considered a consumable.

If you get yours fixed then it's a wee Brucie!

The waranty should cover defective manufacture, if a weld has failed inside the warenty period then this should be covered.

An exhaust is not a consumable in way that brakes are etc and providing there are no signs of impact damage then I would expect them to cover this.

Peugeot (dixon) replaced a section of exhaust on my old 307 under warenty when it was 2.5 years old with 35K on the clock.

Exhausts are not covered by third year warranty, irrespective if faulty manufacture. Dont forget third year warranty is not the same as manufacturers warranty.

Interestingly we havent heard from the chap who started this thread, whats the result?

Sorry i haven't gotten back to you all. I had the work done for £100. Desira wouldn't do the work on warrenty. I tell ya what. All this is starting to put me off Fiats. Since i've had the car the Calipures ceased, bearings gone, handbreak cables snapped (but that was the Desira mechs fault) Exhausts blown and now i'm worried about excessive play on the gear stick. Its still under 3 years old and only done 32,000. Maybe i just got a bad one.
