First of all hello to everyone here.

I have a Seicento Sporting.

The bite point on my clutch is very near to the max point of pedal travel and I am unable to get into 5th gear. Also, I sometimes get a slight crunching sound when I select reverse. I hope it's only the clutch cable that needs adjusting!

I have had a look at the Haynes Cinq manual and think I can tackle the job if I could only find the adjusting nuts! Is it best to do this from underneath the car or through the engine bay? Haynes (p1.14) shows a picture viewed from the wheel arch and mentions something about a charcoal canister being removed?! I know nothing about fixing cars so please excuse my ignorance.

Cheers
nick :)

PS this part of the forum would be greatly improved if the Cinq and Sei cento sections were merged. After all all Seicento owners are interested in Cinqs and vice versa!

hey there nick....this is babysei...i 2 have a sei sporting....i have the same problem with mine with regards to the gear being a bit 'crunchy' when i put it into reverse...but being a baby i havent got a scooby how to do it (

If you lie down with your head under the front bumper near the passenger side, you should see the end of the clutch cable sticking out with 2 nuts on it - one big plastic one and a 10mm locknut. Tightening up the plastic nut (i.e. away from the end of the thread) will lift the biting point of the clutch up. Try small amounts, e.g. 1/8" at a time - the clutch pedal should sit just above the brake.

So I only need to move the plastic nut and not touch the metal one? Is this the one at the very end of the cable? I'll have a look at it when the horizontal rain takes a break!

Thanks fixit. Just had a quick look at it. I'll think I'll do it from the engine bay as I'm a bit claustrophobic. I'll report back when I've made progress!

Finally got round to doing it. Couldn't believe how easy it was!

Keep making an arse of my self when driving as I'm not familiar with the new bite point - good to have 5th gear back though :D Thanks for your help.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Been struggling with a low clutch pedal on my Cinquecento to the point that a prospective buyer declared that the clutch was gone, even pointing to the gear selector on top of the gearbox and saying how little adjustment there is when I dared to suggest that the cable just needed a tweek.
Anyway thanks to this thread it took me 30 seconds to do once I knew where to find it, and no it wasn't where he thought it was.
Car drives better than ever now and seriously thinking of keeping it ?
