Hi all,
Anyone changed their front lower wishbones? Any pitfalls / things to look out for etc.. ? Plan on putting these babies on tomorrow weather permitting :D

Luke,

I have had my wishbones off a few times now, the haynes tells you more than enough. Once your under the car it is quite simple. Watch out for rusty bolt if they have not been off before.

Quick Guide:-
Jack Car Up
Remove Wheels
Remove ARB completely
Break Lower Wishbone Ball Joint apart after removing the nut.
unbolt wishbone & brackets from car

Then reverse of above. Lots of cooper slip when you put everything back together. When you come to do up the lower wishbone nut, place a jack under the lower wishbone and compression the suspension slighty, I found this helped. This can also be used when doing up the ARB as well, only once both wishbones are back on the car..

Luke,

I would probably say the worst part is spilting the ball joints if they have been together for years like mine had the 1st time round.

Ok cheers, think there should be a balljoint splitter in the garage. Infact i know there is as thats what i used to remove the OEM outside bush from my new arms :) i'll let you know how i get on :D

Regarding removing the other bush, a long thread, bolt, few washers and a 32mm socket worked wonders. Took 2 minutes each bush to push out :D

im awake :D
well i had a problem with mine as one of the ARB/wishbone bolts holes was mis threaded so had to re tap the thread.
also on the arb end mounts on both sides the 13mm bolts sheared on removal so i just replaced the end mounts and also one centre ARB mount as another bolt sheared. fiat dealers just up the roads so easier than the scrappies.
not a big job,i just seem to have poor luck when i do this type of job lol

mines has 90k on it so these things happen

Yea, Im toying with replacing all the bolts i can with stainless ones anyway :) But as rain stops play ive had to find something else to do, so been working on my website (which now has just broke too  ) Will have a try Sunday if weathers not too wet.

Do not use stainless bolts on suspension, under any circumstances.

They are too brittle.

Cheers
