just measured my disk thickness because a mate said they looked low. i got 8.1mm (left) and 8.4mm (right) is this getting low? this scraping noise is getting worse and i want to sort it asap!

Usually a disk that has excessive rust at the top of the disc will begin to score the pads.

I'm unsure of the minimum thickness however, are the pistons on the caliper pushed out far?

To maintain good braking a rule I follow is that 1.5 sets of pads to every set of discs.

yer that was what i was thinking, just trying to work out if its dangerously low that theyre urgent or wait until next month when i get paid

ill go ask my dad if he remembers when they were last replaced

When you get to the chipping off stage it's better just to replace cos the edge of the disk should clear the pads easily when in good condition so it's time to replace.

buypartsby is good for discs i.e price but try your local factors too.

just asked my dad and he cant think of exactly when they were replaced but was at least 2/3 years ago.

just been looking at red dot 6 groove disks £71.28 a pair and £43.07 for the pads that good price or can i get them cheaper? PM'd oldskool for a price last week but had no answer. guess the chaps busy!

Well it was 2/3 since my lasts discs and I am changing mines just now.

Dunno about cheaper, with regard to oldschool he never answered my PM for brakes either so he must be making too much money!

AFAIK Peter has been having PC problems, as he hasn't replied to my PMs either..........

Minimum disc thickness is 9.2mm but you'll need a micrometer or vernier calipers to measure it because of the lip around the edge. If you are going to change the disc you will need to change the pads as well whatever state of wear they are in.

new discs should be here either today or tomorrow so going to get fitted next week while on half term.(y)
