I urgently need to overhaul my rear brake drums. What bits do I need, I know so far:
1xCable
2xHandbrake Pivot Lever things
2xBackplate
2:LOL:rums
4xShoes
2xPistons
Also what should all this cost roughly to buy and where from, I know most of it can come from shop4parts like.
One last thing, when my handbrakes off right to the floor, the handbrake light still lights up, guessing this is because my rear brakes aren't disengaging fully?

well, i aint gonna search s4p to price it all up.. you do it urself you lizy git :p

the handbrake warning light is controlled by a switch underneath the lever. But the handbrake on, and poke the button a bit, see if the light goes on / off.

If not, that light is also there to tell you that your brake fluid is low. you might wanna sort that
 
ive just bought the handbrake linkages from fiat £14.10 inc. VAT

EDIT: just read the last bit of the question. my handbrake if you lift it very slightly, not even onto the first click, the light comes on. i think the switch is just very sensitive
 
The light does not turn off when you push the switch in. Fluid level is about half of the master cylinder so I'd have thought that would be OK? so Ive got a complete list in that thread when I find it.
 
Aye, I'll look later though. I reckon driving 3miles with the handbrake on has boiled the fluid, so no doubt it will need somemore.
List and prices I have so far are from shop4parts;
2x Rear Brake Drums: £28.54
2x Rear Wheel Cylinder: £11.92
1x Brake Shoe Set(x4): £8.50
Brake Fluid: £3.66

Now all I need is Back plates and Handbrake cable and Handbrake pivots from FIAT

You need backplates from Fiat which are £19 each or something like that plus you Motor Factors will supply you with a spring kit for the rear for a fiver, Fiat wanted £9 for one spring, yeah all springs and pins from Fiat £45, Motor Factors £5.

You'll need fluid too.

Ive read that thread :D. Doesn't the brake shoe set from shop4parts come with the springs for the shoes, it shows them on the picture? Had an argument with my stepdad over my brakes, he says half of what you're saying you need new wil be ok, I don't think so somehow

The back plates go up against the hub no? and the handbrake pivot lever tinfoil thing goes through it? Well that part is very very rusty on mine, its surface is like that of a poppadom, but rusty.

Fairy nuff. If its beyond salvation, then replace. You then might have to change the cylinders as they are attached to the backplate and will be difficult to get off the original backplate if they are that bad.

I replaced all thoses parts last month.

Back plates are £17+VAT & £15 +VAT. Replaced mine as they're cheapish.

You'll also want, but not need, the clips and pins (F0007672967 & F0005952868 ) that hold the shoes back.

Shop4Parts shoes don't come with springs, but you don't really need new ones.

Jack your back end up and inpsect your wheel bearings before you start, as you don't want to do a me and replace everything, but have to strip it out a few weeks later.

Drums come unpainted, so you might want to give them a coat of something before fitting.

That's almost impossible. But changing the fluid is a good idea. When people talk of boiling the fluid, it's because the water in it is boiling. If that happens then you'd get bugger all in the way of braking.

Personally, I think you're crazy to spend that kind of money without first inspecting what -- if anything -- actually needs replacing.

Now, the rear brakes don't really do much. The drums seldom wear to anything like the wear limits. If they look scruffy on the outside, either have them bead blasted and spray them up or just wire brush them and spray them. The back plates do corrode (again, paint them) but nothing more. Unless there's anything obviously wrong with the cylinders, it's pointless replacing them. The handbrake pivots often seize up, but so will new ones. The trick is to remove them, soak them in WD40, work them back and forwards (even to the extent of mounting them in a vice and whacking them with a mallet) until they free up then remove all traces of WD40 and work a little copperslip into the joint. While you're at it, replace the brake shoes (I pay something like £14 for 4 from a factors). Don't replace the cable unless it needs it.

Replace everything will nilly and you end up learning nothing and with components which will require the same attention in 18 months or so. What's the point?
 
Cable is has been fully adjusted since I bouht it and I have to practically pull the handbrake lever out of the car to get it to hold. Whats the point in not repacing it as it's stretched to feck and its an MOT failure, and with cops cracking down on any young lad in a car because of nob head chavs at macdonalds I can't afford them to pull me over and rape me over basically an unroadworthy car. Also I've had the drums apart on each side a few times seeing as they have seized a few times.

But, in my experience, Bowden cables don't stretch (at least, not by much) -- this includes motorcycles with a cable operated front brake. What appears as stretch is really wear on the shoes. You'd be amazed the difference in adjustment new shoes make, I mean it, really amazed.

The best advice (as a much older guy who regularly gets away with murder) I can give you re: the polizia is;
keep the car well maintained (of course) but
keep the external appearance stock and reasonably smart
don't run LEDs
don't run loud exhausts
be very polite and apologise if you're pulled.

While delivering Pizzas you have to be on it 90% of the time. In over a year I was pulled three times, once for doing 50 in a 30 limit (actually it was more like 55, but I wasn't going to argue), once for overtaking a police car and pulling over to park on the wrong side of the road at red lights (on a yellow line at that) -- technically they had me, but I recon it was the safest thing to do! and once for simply having been seen driving around too much too many times. I escaped without a blemish.............

I'm just worried that you're spending way too much money when it really isn't necessary. Even if concours was what you wanted, you'd be better off going to a scrappy, pulling good parts off a scrap car and having them re-finished. The Cinq is a great concept, built down to a price (as are all cars, but especially small ones) -- really it's the quality of the finish that suffers.
