Something that has never worked on my car is the temperature gauage. I ordered a new sender for the gauage from fiat, drained the cooling system and went to fit it. Its the wrong part it seems.

this is the one i removed from the car;

and this is what fiat have given me

ive taken it back and shown them the difference and they're clueless. They have the chassis number of my car and are trying to find out what part should be in there.

Any ideas?

If the gauge works like a thermostat (i.e. expansion of metals on heating) then it may be that the old one is simply stuck it the "in" position. I have had thermostats go on a non-fiat car, and they have looked different to the replacement due to being stuck on "open". If the round core looks like it is going to retract inside the threaded tube once heated, then it should be ok. As for the top end - the red plasic bit looks like it is simply to protect the plug and shouldnt have any physical effects. Best to ask an expert tho! (not necessarily the bloke behind the counter at FIAT [:0])

i think the new one is thinner, a different thread (cant check as fiat have both parts at the moment. its not going to fit in the hole and seal. It is def deeper - and imo its going to block something if i fit that one

fiat don't think its an upgraded part, as they would have been informed about it - and they said it looks like a different thread also.

its not a thermostat style unit either. it'll just be a thermistor inside there, no moving parts. fiat are baffeled by it, i just thought i'd ask if anyone recognised it as off a different engine, or had one like it on their cinq.

motor factors? can't say ive heard of them,or know anywhere round here that does that.

i'm leaving it with fiat, they're cross checking the number on the old part and are going to let me know asap.. handy as from tomorrow i aint in the country!

However, looking again, I could be wrong. The scale makes the top one look like the radiator one, but its only got the one connection, which I missed the first time. They are still two different sensors, the injection system needs a temp sender as well as the gauge. I now think those are the two you have pictured.

Cheers

there is two, yes - one is for the ECU, one is for the gauge. Its not the fan swtich from the radiator.

The one removed from my car was connected to the gauge. Simple to test. Ground the wire going into it, and the gauge hits the top (test from haynes manual). The new one is a replacement for that part, but is wrong. It makes no sense
