Hi,

It seems I need to replace front shocks in my CC 1.1. (Seems the previous owner replaced only one when reparing the car after an accident, the result is that one is way softer than the other, which makes it impossible to break at high speeds). Anyways, since I am going to spend some money I am looking to get something more serious. Local store offers me
Monroe oil/original or gas/reflex (latter labeled sport). Are these any good? What else would you recommend? I should also note that I do not want/can't lower the car (because of quite big winter tyres). Do you have any idea where I can get this stuff (easily) in the Netherlands or Germany?

Second question: is there any way to replace the shocks so that I don't have to set the geometry with special equipment?

Cheers,

Woj

Bilstein, well built, and I believe they do standard uprated shocks as well as there lowered range.

you cant adjust the camber on a cento, so you just take off the old ones, swap your springs and bolt in the new ones.

You can adjust camber to an extent I believe.

Monroe do a thing called the "Magic Camber" system that allows you to adjust it, but its not adjustible from the factory!

Hmm, I was getting a bit suspicious about all this and checked my magic book and indeed it says that camber cannot be adjusted. I also checked a small description of the Monroe shocks on a local website and they do indeed have a gadget to set up camber. But my book also says that camber should be checked anyway after replacing shocks as other elements may be in not so good shape. Assuming that my car had an accident, how likely it is that things will not be as they should?

The shell of the car will change slightly with use and suspension bushes will settle as will springs. The Monroe Gas units are good being slightly stiffer than standard and no drop off in performance when they get hot.

I would get the suspension checked anyway.

Cheers
