Hi Everyone,
At the moment my car seems to be holding together over the winter period!! So I have decieded to turn my attentions to less unimportant things. Thought it would be great idea to have rev counter like on the sporting version of the sei. I had already discovered that the plug used for the rev counter was already in place which is what gave me the confiedence to buy one from a local scrapyard.
Now comes the problem bit I plug it in and it doesnt work!! There is power to the instrument as it lights up when the other dash lights are turned on but doesnt measure any revs.
I know this is a pretty unique problem dont think anyone else has tried this, but does anyone know if there is a difference at the ecu end where the rev signal comes from between the different models of the sei? Or is it that the rev counter is knackered as it has come off a scrap car?
Any help or advice would be great. My first little mod project on my sei and problems already!!!

Exactly what Sei have you got?
EDIT: Stupid question :)

It may be the same problem as some found in the rev counter sticky :)

My sei is a citymatic although i dont believe that has any bearance on the problem i think it is classed as a seicento SX on reg documents. I'm wondering if there is some difference due to engine size 899 to the 1.1 sporting that occurs in the ECU?

It's possible that there may be a difference in the take off points from the ECU itself. All 899s will use the SPI ECU, essentially the same ECU as the Cinq. Post (late 1999? 2000?) cars will use one of the MPI ECUs.

Wiring diagrams and some diagnostics on the rev counters in the Seicento Technical Manual in the Downloads section.

Yet to attempt it, so, good luck. ;)

Today I spent some time on the issue:

For signal, I use pin 23 from the ECU (black and purple wire on the fuel pump relay) and today i tested it with a voltmeter and it was about 1.5V on idle and around 2.5V on 2.000-3.000rpm. Of course the signal is made of pulses but now i am sure that the ECU sends the signal through pin 23. BUT the needle of the rev counter kept pointing at zero so I am guessing that:

1.My rev counter is not functioning, even though no component seems to be burnt or broken.

-OR-

2.The signal from the ECU (IAW 16FM.EC) is not compatible with the REV counter (Removed from a 2002 Seicento Sporting).

Any ideas....?

An 2002 sporting would be an mpi car and yours is an spi, could be that the mpi rev counter requires a different input signal?
