I've effectively got the go ahead from my insurers for a 1242 conversion.....

I'm now part hunting. Found an ECU in a local scrappy, for a Punto 1.2 Spi (16F.E3), exactly what i'm looking for..

Problem. My Cinq is a Phase 1 car - no immobiliser. I couldnt replace a non immobiliser ECU with one with an immobiliser in it without hassle I think.

I dont suppose you can tell by the codes on the ECU's box whether it has an immobiliser or not?

Cheers

Ill think of something witty....just wait and see............wait I might not.

Novitec claim an induction kit, by them, placed on an otherwise standard 1108cc engine, gave performance figures higher than a cinq with an unmodified 1242cc engine in. Bold claims, but i'm guessing you could always add that kit to a 1242cc.....

Hi,

that was not a novitec claim, but one from gsrengineering for their kit with the CDA box.

The 899-->1242 conversion's true. That is what im doing.
@Arc- know of any good fiat scrappys in Lancashire?

Cheers

Thanks for the correction blitzen, just came on to change that after seeing it again ;) Seems good though for us 1108cc owners, who cant be arsed/lack money/have insurance worries.
Anyone got a cda box?

This is a homebuilt ECU based on the Marelli Weber 16M (Its a motorbike ecu)....i'm thinking that if I played with the mapping a bit, I could force it to run a 1242.

Ang' on it appears one chip does all the work. If a chip's mapping affects the model of ECU- and the 16F ECU is used in the Cinq Sporting, then couldn't I strip down a Punto ECU (6F), and nick the chip and just slot that into my ECU??

Ideas??

arseofbox - i dont, no.

try on here: http://www.nationalbreakers.com/

and if you find anywhere with some cinq sportings in, can you please let me know? thanks

Cinq Sporting - and yes, its broom yellow!

Well, a scrappy \ parts place I usually go to local to me, North Parts always appear to have them - or most parts you'd look for in stock. Ive forgotten their tel no but they're part of the Britt Parts Group in Stockport- they do have a website.

Superchips led me to believe that the immobiliser info is held on the chip with the map.

Well, The Least I could do is get a 1242 chip from the appropriate ECU, read it into a computer - read the 899 mapped chip in and compare the results - as the 16F is effectively the same ECU as the 6F, anything like immobilisers should show up in the code held in that chip.

But if you just installed an appropriately mapped chip into your 1108 ECU, then given the ECUs are similar if not identical, I should just be able to chop and change as necessary!

Well thats at least what i'm understanding from this

As for work involved- its not small but its hardly a full eng. bay strip- everything behind the firewall, the radiator and the coolant systems stay in place.

Alright - just been looking into the chips in the ECU...

Look at this http://www.ace-servis.com/ecu_fiat.htm
I ve spend at least 3 hours today searching for EEPROMs in ECUs. The 3rd column contains chip numbers - logically those in the ECU.

I recognise 27C512 being used in the link in my last post (My16M), and thats fairly common. It also happens to be in both the Punto and Cinq Sporting ECUs - 16F.

Also according to the OBD-2 standard, which was introduced to make ecu analysis easier, that security codes could be found in Hexadecimal C0-C7 in the chip. If I get a chip from an immobilisered 1242cc ECU, rip that into a computer and compare that to my non immobilisered 899cc ECU chip, given the ECUs are basically the same, the security codes \ immobiliser shousld stand out a mile!!!

At my old work place they had a ECU reader/writer. I don't think they'd let me use it now though lol.

Good luck though, it sounds almost too easy! You should post your results. If possible get someone who's got a superchip/star chip and get that ripped into the computer too.;)

Ive emailed BBRGTi (Company that makes Starchips) seeingif they can do a bespoke one, that I can slot into my 899 ECU to make it run a 1242..But Im not giving up on this one yet!
