Hiya... first of all, this is my first proper post, am new *waves* I've posted in the 'Newbies Forum' if anyone's interested!

Anyway, I have a '95 Cinquencento Sporting, which I love :) but I'm having problems with it...the clutch cable snapped a few months ago, I got it repaired but since then it has been very difficult to get into gear... it takes a few goes to get it into 1st gear, and makes a horrible crunching sound in reverse. I'm never sure whether I'll be able to get going again at traffic lights! Its made me scared to drive it, so I'm hardly using it at the moment :( and thats not good! Someone said I could have a problem with the gearbox, but it's only been like this since the clutch cable was repaired, so it must be related to that? I just wondered if anyone had any ideas what it could be, so I can sound like I know what I'm talking about if I take it to the garage (I'm your typical young 18-year old girl who the garages can see coming to rip off!)

Thankyou :)

sounds like you clutch cable isnt adjusted up properly, try it yourself all you need is a 10mm spanner i think lol

:yeahthat: when you fit a new clutch cable it will get stretched slightly through use, and will more than likely just need tightening up again :D

Its a large 13mm plastic nut type thing with a 10 (or 8) mm nut making sure it stays in place :)

Thanks peeps, I'll try tightening it up (well I won't personally lol, but I'll find someone who will!). I was worried it was something serious, have just paid £100 for a new exhaust so don't want to be spending much more at the moment! Thanks for reassuring me :)

flutter your eyelashes and you get it done for nowt, anyone who charges dont deserve a xmas card this year

it really is a 2 minute job, i found it best with 2 people though, 1 playing around under the bonnet and 1 in the car shouting higher, lower, freeze, to set the pedal and bite right

lol, I'll do my best :) I'll let ya know if it works, fingers crossed. I just want to drive my baby again without worrying every time I have to stop, in case I get stuck there!

Not mastered the clutchless gearchange yet? :p.

The 'box in the Sporting is forgiving, so much so that prior to mine going 'pop' I was doing mainly clutchless changes (was mainly motorway miles) :)

IIRC letting off at about 2500rpm it just pops in nicely :D

Clutchless gearchange...nope, never tried that one! Sounds like something I might have to learn though lol. Thanks for the link...it's very helpful, I *may* have a go myself... still a bit scared of breaking something  but I suppose a car I can't reverse is no good to me either, so I'll just have to try! Thankyoo :)

Definately something to learn. The Sporting g/b is the easiest gearbox ive used so far to do it...

There isnt much to break down there. Theres only one bolt on the end of the arm, and turning it too far back out will only make it harder to engage gears. It only needs 5-6 turns clockwise.

Get out and push? Didnt think so. Having said that, I cant push mine....

Remember the washer between the two as otherwise the metal nut will eat into the plastic nut! Hence defeating itself.

i drove home from uxbridge to aldershot in my first cinq with no clutch, good 35 miles really isnt that hard, just gotta get the revs right (y)

but as has been said, cable is dead easy to adjust IIRC the haynes says the clutch pedal should have about 120mm of movement :D
