Hi guys, Starting to prepare the assembly process of the engine.
For the head and block I used a piece of granite and sand paper with lots of WD40.
But there are still some imperfections. Should I machine the block?
And the head is a bit pitted on the water jackets... is it any good? I cant find those markins for the depth of the skimming. Was this head skimmed to the max?

The block surface looks ok, but is it actually flat?

That head has some pretty bad erosion. There also looks like there could be cracks or possibly imperfections from previous weld repairs?
It may be possible to skim them out, but I would probably suggest the head may be scrap.

The has been skimmed past the max skim markers.....which isn't a bad thing, 3 out my 4 cylinder heads are in the same position.

The head doesn't look the best around the water galleries but for the cost of a head gasket i'd give it a try before sourcing a spare head.

As you've gone to the effort of stripping the block down, I presume you'll be taking the valves out and lapping them in again. From all the heads I've seen its worth doing.

I thought the same. I took the head to a machine shop and the man said that it could still be skimmed. For 35 euros Will give it a try and see.
Yes I Will bem laping the valves. Everything is new, bearings, piston rings, Core plugs, head gasket, head bolts and everything.
