I really am running out of things to do to my car now, so I’ve decided to go for a new cone k&n air filter. However, I actually want it to take in cold air so their induction kit is out.

I can’t find any kit that seems suitable so my plan was to do as follows:

Grab a piece of aluminium pipe, a Silicone 90 degree bend and some hose clamps.

I’d just have a single aluminium pipe which will run down to behind the passenger side headlight with the air filter on the end.

Im no mechanic & I haven’t ventured into the realms of engine modification in any way before - I have an MPI Sei.

What am i actually attaching the silicone bend to? The throttle body? What diameter of everything should i get?

Is this all just a stupid idea?

I look forward to your answers!

Measure top of throttlebody so you know the diameter required for silicone hose.rest of the diameters depend on the airfilter you intend to use and what materials you have laying about

On closer inspection it seems I need a 't' piece for the oil breather pipe too :bang:

I'm sure I'll make something work

Alrighty,

A good long evening's research and I reckon I know what i'm doing.
I'll create a sort of guide as I go along for anyone else who wants to build their own intake to follow.

I'll need the following:

A 90 degree silicone elbow bend pipe which will be attached to the throttle body which has an inner diameter of 60mm to match the throttle body's outer diameter.

A Straight alloy 'T' piece with an outer diameter of 60mm and with a little chute which has a TBC outer diameter (I need to measure the outer diameter of the end of the oil breather hose which is currently routed into the airbox).

Some silicone hose with a TBC outer diameter (Need the oil breather measurement for this too) which will attach the oil breather airbox exit piece to the chute on the 'T' Piece.

Then I'll need some silicone pipe with an inner diameter of 60mm which will attach to the other end of the 'T' piece and run towards the passenger headlight.

Then I need a 45 degree alloy elbow bend pipe with an outer diameter of 60mm so that I can place the intake down behind the headlight, in a position that will be somewhere between that of the old 'Focus' kits and the 'GSR' kits.

Then I'll need the K&N cone air filter, making sure the flange has an Inner diameter of 60mm so it'll attach to the pipe.

It'll all be held together by hose clamps and optimism :D

I've designed it to be as 'straight' as possible after doing an embarrassing amount of research on what makes a good intake system.

What I haven't yet figured out is if it's going to need any reinforcement, like a bracket or something to keep it steady when I'm driving, not too sure how and where I'll be able to mount one, but as always - I'll figure it out :slayer:

I'd really appreciate it! I'm sure they both use the same airbox, so they should be the same!

Edit: Or do they? I can't quite remember now...
