Hi guys,

I had a quick search around the forum and found similar problems but not exactly the solution I need. Hopefully someone can help.

Problem: Headlights are not coming on on both sides, but the sidelights and full beam both work ok.

Fuses seem ok. I don't think the selector stalk is damaged.

Both bulbs going simultaneously would be weird.

About 10 days ago, I replaced the driver side indicator bulb, but surely that can't have an effect?

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks very much.

I just had a problem with one side light, then the indicator on the same side stopped working even though all other lights & indicators were working. Anyway it turned out to be the wiring as it was very brittle. The garage replaced the wiring to the indicator which somehow also fixed the sidelight problem.

The high beams have a fuse and a relay dedicated to them, so if the bulbs are not blown (you'll need to check) then it's obviously a "wiring" issue. Clean out the fuse holder (check that there is a current across it) and then find the relay (I think it's near the ECU, under the bonnet) and have a look to see what state the blade connectors are in.

If it all looks okay, earth one of the bulbs directly to the engine, rather than relying on the black wire to the car's wiring. Does that make it work?

Some cars have the high beam controlled by the Body Control Module/computer. If you get the blue light on the dashboard but no high beams, then it could point to a BCM issue... but I dunno if Seicento is just a bit too old to have anything so tricksy... it's just a thought for later on, if you can't find anything obvious.

Can you clear up what is working and what isn't.

You say "main beam has failed" but "full beam working".
What do you mean by "main" and "full?

Is it dip beam that isn't working or the main beam?

Some Cinq have dim-dip, which means that when the ignition is on and lights on sidelights, you actually get the dip beam illuminated but at reduced brightness as it passes through a resistor. When you select dip beam proper it does straight to the bulb without passing through the resistor.

Do you have dim-dip?
Does that work?

Odds on this is an issue with connections in the fuse box.

Particularly on the rear of the fuse box.

I had some real headaches with an old Cinq Sporting and often had to kick the fuse box whilst driving to get the indicators to work...

Maybe clear up what car it is for too.
I assumed it was a Cinq, going purely by your username... but now suspect that isn't the case...

Got 2 new headlights if you are interested
