Cinquecento Sporting clutch cable help needed

Hi
I have the 'clutch pedal on the floor and won't come up' issue. (1996 Sporting.)
having searched other threads it seems I need to check gubbins in the passenger footwell. Is the carpet glued and has to be pulled up?

any advice on accessing the gubbins i need to check?

thanks
Steve

It's up and under the parcel shelf. No carpet needs disturbing.

You'll need to move the passenger seat back as far as possible and stick your head under the shelf.

Options to get in are to hang your legs out the door, or fold the seat as flat as possible to get your legs on it.

The cable will have broken at the J clip, as it has a designed in weakness so it breaks before anything else.

Re: Cinquecento Sporting clutch cable help needed

Thanks that's helpful and I've had a look, yes the cable has snapped at the pivot.

Is it likely the clutch is on its way out? or is it just metal fatigue.

Last question - is it a DIY job for a reasonably able amateur!??

It looks like the 'hook' connects with a split pin, easy enough i guess, but the other end in the engine bay looks fiddly to get to, and will it need to be correctly adjusted, needing a pro who knows how to do such things?

thanks
Steve

I'll just leave this here. Not for the sporting, but might give you an idea of what's involved.

Re: Cinquecento Sporting clutch cable help needed

Its probably snapped because it needs a new clutch. If your hissy swapping the cable buy two because it may well happen again at some point.

Press the clutch with engine off - If it's heavy'ish and makes creaky sounds then it's the springs getting old and harder to operate in the clutch pressure plate.

New clutch will make pedal feel lovely and light

Hmm ok new clutch probably sensible given that the car is a keeper with only 36k miles on it. Can you give any idea of cost typically? Is it a pig job or an easy job?
Thanks
Steve

Clutch on a Cinq is dead easy, a one spanner rating, if that.

The box is light enough to come in and out through the wheel arch.

For changing clutch cable, take the passenger seat out, its only 4 bolts.
