I have a leak from my fuel cap. I have bought a replacement cap just in case the cap itself was faulty, but no luck and it still leaks.

I have noticed that there is a metal collar just inside the filler neck that is loose on my car. It looks like it usually helps to seal the fuel cap and I wonder if being loose is causing the fuel cap not to seal correctly?

Has anyone else had this? Can I bond the metal collar back in place somehow to save me having to replace the whole filler neck?

Titch, the Younger Mrs S's Sporting has the same issue with a loose metal dibber-dobber (the yellow zinc plated piece).

I don't have a solution though. When it gets moody, I have to move the piece around by hand so that the square notches in the otherwise round hole are aligned with the front & rear "line" of the car. Then the cap fits in and seals okay.

That's very interesting to read, Ralf.

I have the same issue (apparently) as an MOT advisory on a 'period Alfa-

I had always assumed it was the rubber; it didn't occour to me there could be a mechanical component to the problem..

I'll need to look aT it sometime!
