Fiat Seicento instrument panel changing

Hello,

Is it possible to change the mk1 instrument panel into a mk2 instrument panel with the display in the middle? Size seems the same, but totally different connectors on the back. Has anyone tried this?

Re: Fiat Seicento instrument panel changing

I'm guessing it's to be filed under 'lots more hassle than it's worth'.

The facelift instruments will be taking mileage and possibly speed from the ECU. (I haven't looked closely enough to verify).

Pre-facelift with a mechanical mileometer will be cable driven, hence the difference in connectors.

Re: Fiat Seicento instrument panel changing

Okay, my Ďoldí instrument panelís meters are dancing when the car is driving, so I thought of replacing it with a new one. And then why not with the mk2 version! But maybe the idea is a little over the top.

If I replace it with another same instrument panel, how do I correct the kilometres on it?

With a very small screwdriver. You just carefully flick the tumblers around to the right mileage.

Re: Fiat Seicento instrument panel changing

Bouncing around cable driven instruments is often caused by a sticking or damaged drive cable or the wormdrive gearbox.

Bouncing around electrical instruments would be a bad connection somewhere.

Check your gearbox oil level. That can also be a cause of jumping speedo.

gearbox oil affecting the speedo sensor!

(possibly)

I'd never have thought of that...

On the wet boxes the fixed boots are prone to leaking at the bearing, if the oil leaks away the diff bearings wear dropping the diff away from the speedo sensor.

Could effect any box, but the wet box with the inner spider lubed by the gearbox oil is particularly at risk.

Re: Fiat Seicento instrument panel changing

Some gearboxes have grease filled bearings. Is that the case with some Fiat boxes?

The issue with this system is that bearing inner seals wear allowing gearbox oil into the bearing. The overfilled bearing churns its lubricant, overheats and the bearing seal blows-out. Bearing now runs dry.

Re: Fiat Seicento instrument panel changing

With the Fiat wet boxes the inner spider is inside the box, lubricated by the gear oil.

The driveshaft boots are fixed to the gearbox and the shaft turns in a bearing in the outside of the boot.

These boots/bearings can leak letting all the gearbox oil out leading to wear problems in the diff and box.
