Nice car. Mine is gray metalic too.

I have the same problem, but my car is on always hot. And I think that air recirculation doesn't work on mine (One that draws air from the outside, or inside air recirculation).

But I have never opened heater box. This cable is behind firewall cover?
Is this the metal cable?

Can you post more photos, so I can see where is the location of the cable.
I think that you don't need to take all enterior out, only central panel with heater knobs.

Try to see if cable has tensioner, so you can tighten it up.

Surely you have the same problem or simpler, it has been possible to loose cable, mine is out and does not fit in the case. I do not have more photos, you can not have better access. Simply by removing the buttons and the central plastic, you can see, but bad access to disassemble.

purchased original rev counter sporting digital screen. I already have the connection under the board. I guess it will just connect.

Nice one for the rev instrument...I have one by original, it looks nice on the top of the board, but, it is not too useful place when you drive.
