General Another Back In 'CentoLand!

Back again but probably only passing through .Have a chance to buy a one owner just under 10k miles Seicento 1.1 S from the owner for around 500 quid .Cant decide if Im mad thinking about it or mad not to .LOVING my 2003 Mini 1.4d at 180k miles giving me high 60s mpg but have Cento in my blood but SWORE it was OVER after last very nasty clutch cable snap....My 14 year old daughter is prob still traumatised after the last clutch cable snap ...she was in car as gear lever came off in my hand !

I should just get a nearly new Mini Cooper s or SD for my 50th birthday next year right ?!

Somebody smack me and send me back on my way ...Ad below ...

Why would the gear lever come off because of a clutch cable failure?

It is always good to get a feel for your car by practicing rev matching like in the old days of dog boxes or life you would on a motorcycle for clutch less changes so that you can still get home if a cable breaks.

Knock it into neutral as you come to a stop, cut the engine put it back in first and start in gear to get going again.

Once you are rolling and have experience rev matching you will find you can drive perfectly fine without a clutch.

tbf, i know the cables go but in all my years and all my fiats, i've snapped only one. It was my very first fiat as well, a black 899. I think your paranoia was just getting to you really, have always found my centos to be super reliable over the years - and if one does break i'm way more likely to be able to fix it on the side of a road with a stick and a cable tie than just about anything else on the road

Holy Zombie Thread Batman! Im
In a Suzuki Swift Sport 2019 the last three years bought nearly new .Great yoke doing 50+ mpg but still yearn for a 2014-2020 Cooper S in either of the orange shades ….or a Cento with a break proof clutch cable !!!???Surely any half decent metal worker could fit something at either end to make them break proof ?

They just need a new clutch (y) then the cable mechanism is fine.
