I have a beautiful little Seicento with an 1108cc engine. Can I pull a Freedom caravan with it? It's one of those very tiny ones, weighs about 500k?

Hmm..I presume that qualifies as an unbraked trailer?

IIRC you can pull up to half the gross unladen weight of the car if its an unbraked trailer. So that'd be 0.5*735kg or around the 375kg mark.

too heavy i think. for the cinq(assume the sei is the same) the max braked towing weight is 400kg with unbraked being 350kg

You will have to check your towing weights which will be in your manual.

Having Worked in the camping/outdoor leisure trade myself, from experience i wouldnt recommend towing anything which at least doesnt have a 1.3 engine

Hmmm...not necessarily true, the towing weight is a very dependable factor, in some instances some tows can only be pulled with a mininum of an 1800 engine, as I said, this depends on the weight of the tow.

Fact:- You must comply with the figures indicated in your manual for maximum towing weight. This may also be on the chassis plate.

The Freedom caravans are braked, so use the braked trailer figure.

Thats not true either.

Ive sold a conway folding camper (weight 660kg) to someone who owned a hyundai getz 1.3 which managed to pull it.

Ive never seen a camping or caravanning book that states a minimum of an 1800 engine

the manual says 400KG braked and 350 KG with no breaks hope this helps

LOL don't give up your day job! I wasn't implying that tow weights have to be pulled by an 1800 engine! I said it is a dependable factor on the towing weight, but in some instances, heavier weights i.e. Caravans (the big ones, just in case you misinterpreted it) tend to be towed better with a minimal engine size of 1.8...get it!

Just take your time when you read posts etc, saves me time having to explain myself! lol
