hi i have a sei 1.1 sporting i bought around a year ago.

was driving very well indeed,no faults.

i put it into storage last september, and i took it out last friday for summer use. popped battery in,all good started, ran lovely.

have used it the last 2 days no problems, plenty of spirited driving(y)

was driving it today, travelled around 30miles,and about 50yards from my house it just died! restarted it and reved it,all ok,it died again as i pulled into my driveway!.

i left it for a while, and went out and started it again, reved it all good. i went for a drive, all fine, drove quickly, and it started to die, then darted forward, then died, then darted again. i stopped and it reved fine, all cylinders firing.

now if i drive fast it dies/goes/dies/goes.

but if i drive slowely and with care it is ok???

any ideas? fuel pump?? fuel filter?? dont think its a sensor as it has always kind of stayed running. reves fine with no load.

im stuck for a car for work, and i wont be able to get a pump soon enough.

i have a 02 punto and a few 900cc cinq,would any of there pumps fit/work??

any thoughts would be great.

thanks

An idea is to check if the problem was the fuel or the current. I was having problems with the start of the engine and as i change my faulty rpm sensor all was ok.

Hi Irishcento did you resolve your problem if so what was the problem as I am having exact same. Thanks in advance. :)

hi just spotted the post alive again.

it did come good in the end.

i took it out, lookrd ok,i then bodged a mk 2 punto into the hole in the tank, drove it and all was good.

put old pump back in to be safe, restarted and went for a drive, all perfecy.

5k later still driving fine, so dont realy know how it fixed its self:confused:

let me know how you get on

Hello thanks, I was going to pull the pump out on mine next any way but your reply prompted me to get on and continue trying to sort my issue. So I did.
I couldn't immediately see anything obviously wrong so I attempted to get into the bottom part were I thought the filter should be, but I was put off as it was a pretty solid fit and didn't want to break any of the clips, so I very nearly backed out and reinstalled it; but after some judicious shaking of the unit to establish if I could hear anything rattling etc I noticed a bit of a darker shadow at the bottom that looked suspicious. This spurred me on to make another attempt at getting inside the thing. So with some care and gentle persuasion with thin flat screwdrivers I managed to get a clean separation.
I couldn't believe how much sh** was in the bottom of the unit; any way I cleaned out a good hand full of what looked like gravel that felt more like some thing for the garden.

My 51 Shumy has only 22k miles, always garaged and was a one family ownership, so how and why such an accumulation of crud occured is a bit of a mystery to me. It might be to do with it having stood in a garage unused for 2 years before I bought it so it could possibly have come from the tank insides.

So this is breaking news and I haven't tested her on a long run yet, but I am pretty confident that I have sorted the problem and should expect to travel more than 10 miles before getting that running out of petrol sensation. If I don't make any more posts on this thread then you will know. (Some Pics uploaded)

So thanks to you and rallycinq for your replies. .
P.S. Irishcento. You might want to check yours again as you might have just only disturbed any deposits.
