bulkhead cowling

Has anyone come up with a replacement or solution to the cardboard bulkhead cowling that stretches the width of the car behind the suspension turrets.
Mine is slowly disintegrating.

Re: bulkhead cowling

I looked for these for ages and in the end it was jiminwatford who sorted me out with a replacement RH part and rubber strip.

Part numbers and diagram for reference.

I suspect at some point someone will make some fibreglass replacements.

Re: bulkhead cowling

Can you fit/remove it without taking half the car apart? Mine is a bit ropey too.

I did make a new one for my old Alfa 155 once, out of a (funnily enough) Cinquecento bonnet liner.. but that was more or less flat, whereas Cinq' is definitely "shaped".

Yes it is just a few screws and the rubber strip.

Re: bulkhead cowling

They're a fairly simple group of components to remove in theory, however, the clips/screws on mine were so badly rusted, I had a terrible time removing them.

The smaller of the two halves was 70 when I priced it up new...

Especially the ones around the heater hoses. The nut half of the fastening is clipped to the cardboard, so it doesn't take much resistance on the thread before it rips out.

Re: bulkhead cowling

I have started on the process of fixing the problem. Having doped the fabric liner on the front of both pieces and then stripping off the old knackered sound deadening and cardboard backing I am now in the process of reinforcing it with glass.
Ultimately I will recover with dynamat dynaliner and then refit.
All in all it'll take about 10hrs in total. There must be an easier way.....

Re: bulkhead cowling

Finally got the cowling finished, worked out pretty well, fits a treat and should last an age.

Re: bulkhead cowling

I didn't forget the small one behind the battery. I had to rebuild the corner piece as it was shot to pieces.

Re: bulkhead cowling

did you just fibreglass it to strengthen it? then what did you do, get it flocked or cover it with carpet?
looks really good. mine is actually undamaged structurally, just the covering has been chewed by mice
