Well after a few weeks and 500miles of messing about with the Track Sei, after the cam pulley came off, fixed it and had head skimmed up to max, fitted a new front splitter (Seat leon) tow strops, new rear wheel bearings, new rad, new steel water pipe, new 40mm TB, it's first real outing is this Sat at Oulton.... Hope I show the big boys up..(y)

How is it for power now with the skimmed head and larger throttle body?
Did you get a vernier pulley for it in the end?

I would like to come and watch but i've got the little lad and its just under 2 hours away.

Have a good'n

40mm Throttle body off Sparky (great work sparky indeed).. is a must, more power everywhere...and helps pull upto the rev limiter (still not perfect, but better).. had the head skimmed to max, the engineer said not to bother as it would make little difference, and he was right, say the thrttle body made the car 10% better the head skimmed made 0.5%.... .....

I would say that as the cam pulley was comming off it jumped a tooth, for that 2 miles although it ran worse it ran worse upto the red line...and pulled right up to the red line... so I reckon a vernier pulley might just pull that powerband from 1500 to 4500 to say 2500 to 6500 ... which would be perfect, i think the engine has another 10-15bhp in her at that top end, i sounds a lot i know but im sure it's there.... so i need to find a bottom cambelt Crank pulley for the mk1 punto with the wider pitched belt, water pump (if that fits) ( i do not know if the pulse wheel polly v belt pulley will fit it right either )... this will allow the vernier pulley to fit then....

it would be nice to try it, Im sure other might have done the same... i will try the 750 club forum .. as need to know rather than hear say .... but im looking forwards to trying it on Saturday (I used to race superbikes so know the track quite well)

If you switch to the 'spi' pitch belt and pulleys, will the ecu like running without the cam sensor using the piper pulley?
Switching pulleys and pumps has been done, but its the management that may cause the problems.

I've unpluggerd the cam sensor... no issues at all.

Track day was a huge sucess, arrived 7.15 am had drivers briefing, noise checked all good at 83db max is 102db...had 3 sighting laps in the wet behind a saftey car helps people learn the track etc... and we had 6x20 sessions over the day. 2x groups of cars and 1 x group of bikes, i would say maybe 25 cars per group.

Met another Fait driver Carlo in his mint yellow Cinq...so i didn't feel too out of it with all the M3's, S2000's and full on touring cars.... was nice to see a few novice drivers and cheap gti type cars there, I went with my mate Dan who had bought an Mr2 for £500 ... its quick too and Dan is a bit fearless.

My first 20min session was wet although it had stopped raining and my 225,45,13 R888 tyres coped well to be honest i did take another set of wheels some 14" Punto alloys shod with some 185 conti sports (Continental) road tyres but i didn't feel the need to change tham over as the track had one or two dry corners and the sun was out i took it steady feeling what the car was doing how it felt under braking a couple of corners a was having a few oversteer moments... but it was still damp..i was happy with the car it was starting to hold it's own towards the end on the session as my confidance grew i was over taken by about 6-7 cars

2, track nearly dry, still long damp patches stopping the tyres get up to temp... but starting to push the car a lot harder had a lock up going into corner 7 Brittens, dont panic i said to myself let brake of and steered through it all was fine just lost a little speed and my line was bad through the corner must have been a little damp, then on the next lap nearly lost the back in turn 12 Knickerbrook.. car went well no issus and love the way is handles, over taken by 5 cars

3, Dry track... sun is out, car 100% spot on, im pushing the car now say 90% leaving a little room for any errors... I overtake a ford ST, and an mr2 they are a lot faster than me however they are braking far too soon and my braking is getting less and less to the point where im going in turn 4 flat out on the throttle, and just dabing the brakes at turn 1 while others are on the brakes for 100 yds...got over taken by 3 cars

4, Dry track car is getting lightier half tank of fuel, tyres are now at a good temp on track and are starting to rip up a little....i chase a celica gti he just cant get away from me... shell oils turn 5 is like the Carusel at the Nurbergring and i can hit that with a lot of speed and im actually pulling away from an M3 though it (and he is quick) over taken by 2 cars

5, The car is suprising me now.... its as quick if not quicker than 80% of the cars in my session.. im really pushing hard 3rd gearis good for most of the track as my car pulls from 0revs and red line is about 85mph taking turn for at 70mph is cool, 1 car overtakes me

6, last session of the day... if your going to bin it this is the session as your tired and your confidence is high.... i over take 3 cars the ford ST, Mr2, Adui a3 TFsi.... no body over takes me... Im a driving god. Best £120 i have ever spent, car was cool people where asking what was under the bonnet 1200cc i siad ... "No way" lol...

Sounds great.
Any faults with the car/areas to improve? Better brakes and suspension, rear anti roll bar, more power? Sound well set up as it is.

Next year I'll be there :)

you know... its pretty much spot on ... but as it's a track car it will always be in developement.. I need the front and rear arches rolling due to a little bit of catching or tyres to bodywork, the power band tails off after 4500 rpm but its better with the 40mm throttle body (i still think this is a cam timing issue) so i really would like to try the old style cam belt set up (im still trying to source part numbers) or I might use the old Cam pulley and drill and dowel it say 5 deg advance... this way i could buy a few old pulleys and dremel off the old key nub and play with different options ... the more i think about it the more this makes sence... i could even try taking it one tooth advance ?... but idle hands and all that.

The suspension is standard new shocks all round, front apex lower stiffer springs rear are eibach ??? seem a little stiffer than apex.. its a really good set up...i have front camber plates on the top mounts... both are camberd in so as you look at the front of the car its knock kneed.. say 5mm (its the first mark on the top mounts anyway.. i didn't feel i needed to mess with this so left it at 5mm past standard setting, tyres where set at 20 psi warm

The car with these wheels and tyres pretty much out handles anything that was there... my mate was in his mk3 Mr2 VVT 180bhp track car and he is not slow, said if i didn't let him pass he would not have been able to overtake me.... my Seicento is very very quick through the corners and slower on the straights.. I fare and square overtook some pretty fast stuff with good drivers.. but i do have a lot of practice as i used to race bikes there alot.. so was pretty fearless into a lot of the bends (like not braking and holding the throttle wide open) even when all your mind is saying brake brake brake... (but its back to bike racing times you have to learn that the car/bike moves around on corners but that's just tyres and suspension doing thier job)

The car handles really well, undesteers a little when been pushed hard and then it starts to turn to oversteer and you get a little rear drift going when on the ragged edge... all in all it's really fantastic it's blown me away.

I think i just let off the gas on one lap for corner 1 ... most are braking and down changing for it... most laps i just gave the brakes a dab here..

Brakes are standard with new fluid and green stuff pads.. they are perfect no fade (but i was hardley braking) i dont see the point in upgrading them to Punto Gt etc..

it might be a different story at another track so i will look at others to try.

I did take spare wheels and tyres, oil, water, tools etc.. i didn't even touch the car all day... it needed nothing and still drove home and felt the same to drive with no issues.. it's impressed me this little fiat... oh and if i had pulled up in a Buggati Vayron it would still have got less attention than the Sei... people where all over it asking questions etc.. taking pictures.. was quite a popular car... that held it's own.. respect

I've taken the bull by the horns and made my own 4 deg (ish) advance pulley by drilling and dowling it myself and yep moved the power band up, so now pulls from 1k revs to 6k like a train... sounds bloody awsome really raspy had to ad a little m4 nylock nut to just nudge the idle adjustment up a tiny bit as it didn't like ticking over.... ticks over great now
