I'm with Brooky on this, best bang for buck at this kinda level is a 1242 swap.

But why 1242 and not a 1368 16v?
A bit more work from what I get but should be worth it.

Going to swap 1242 to 1368 on mine probably. With a 6 speed gearbox it should be a lot better.

T-jet is probably quite a bit more.

I agree, but for let's say an additional 500euro (over what you would spend on a 1.4 NA), we are talking possible 180 hp vs 95-100 on the NA 1.4.

Add to that, the fact it makes turbo noises, and it's a clear winner.:D

Where would i find the parts? Like biggest tb and mechanical rocker arms? I have a cold air intake, straight through exhaust, and skimmed head, although not surehow skimmed, and also would remapping it do much?

Hi, where are you based? I have some parts to sell, would need to go through them but I have mcCrich(?) chip in ECU, Supersprint rear pipe/box (alumised, not full stainless), 40mm (32mm?) throttle body (I think I still have it), intake kit. Some suspension struts (not sure if you've done shocks or just springs?)
I'm Milton Keynes based.

Because of budget, a 1242 8v with basically drop in with only extra expense being a spacer in exhaust which is super easy and cheap.

a 1242 16v if can be sourced from an early car like a punto sporting mk1 means you get everything you need from one car, engine, ecu, codebox, loom etc. This you can just try find a rotten donor car thats super cheap get what you need and scrap the rest, super cheap and easy conversion thats cheap and results in a great cento. This is what I'd do on a small budget.

I didnt say a 1368 because to do that you either need the engine from one car and the inlet and throttle body and some bits off a different car, ideally an early 16v loom not from the donor engine car, same goes for ecu. If you dont want to do that then you are converting the cento the fly by wire - totally doable of course but more faff and more money..

So yeah, on a budget i think the 1.2 8v (preferrably a p75 mpi engine) is a great upgrade albeit doesnt make a fast cento does make a cento just nicer to drive both around town with the extra low down torque that comes with the slightly bigger capacity and also on long runs you find yourself not having to change down alot more, just pulls better.

The 1.2 16v makes an actual nippy car that keeps up with a surprising selection of things you'd not expect a cento to keep up with. Not fast but huge fun and make a great noise. Possibly my fave cento I've had for something that gets driven regularly was my 1.2 16v cinq.

the 1.4 16v swap is obviously a bit faster but the early 16v engines do rev better, and generally people use its ecu to run the 1368 swaps and it does run it fine but it runs the 1.2 better. etc etc. I just think thats the best option in this situation so thats why i said that ;)

Why can't you use the inlet, loom and ECU from same donor car? I get that the TB is different but are the other bits needed because of drive-by-wire too?

yes, the 1.4 16v engines are all fly by wire throttle so to use one you either need to take that off and replace with cable stuff or convert the car to have the pedal for the fly-by-wire. I've never bothered to try but i suspect there would be further little issues down the line, like getting the clocks to run off the newer ecu might be tricky - its very common in engine swapped cars for the clocks to not work properly, not just fiat i mean more in general. The last cento i saw with stuff all swapped from a 1.4 16v it has the actual punto clocks in it and the centre control panel with the window switches etc. Looked thrown together as a result though imo.

so the easy way to do 1.4 swap is the engine itself from a 1.4 16v fiat, doesnt really matter which. Then run the inlet, throttle body, ecu, codebox, key, engine loom and fuel pump out of a mk1 punto 16v or similar, could use bravo/a 16v bits instead.

Hi mate, sorry it took so long to reply, been a bit busy lately, but im based in Sheffield, and i may be interested in a few bits and bobs depending on the pricing haha
