Clear the codes and check also the spark plugs cables.....maybe one of this is faulty.

Hi All, I bought a Seicento 1.1 SX ( 2001 ) a few weeks ago as a second car ( pet/toy/hobby ), first couple of jobs I had done were re-seal fuel pump, was getting fumes in the cabin, second was to replace pads and grind disc edges as they had a bit of a lip on them.
As there was no real service history with the car ( apart from previous owner saying he had a new crank sensor fitted recently ) I thought it wise to get the cambelt changed + water pump etc ( car only has 30k on clock ), the day before I took the car in I had been out for a run in it, about 40mins later a few miles from home the car started to judder under acceleration and lose power, so I pulled over and gave her ten minutes to cool down, and had a look for anything obviously amiss under the bonnet, all looked fine, started back up no problem and got about a mile from home and it started to lose power again, gave her 5mins and made it home, also when warm the idle is a little lumpy. Told the mechanic about all this and he checked the cooling system to see if it was an overheating problem, fan comes on fine, although engine does seem to run hot, as some have mentioned on here, got rad flushed, new plugs and leads, oil change and cambelt kit, got her back today and went out for an hour with no issues until I hit a bit of teatime traffic, could feel a slight lack of power so put heater on warm an fan on, and that seemed to help. I found this thread and it seems I have a few more options to try to hopefully cure it, coil pack x 2, lambda sensor x 2, Idle control valve, I will take it back to my mechanic to see what he thinks next course of action should be, I am leaning towards lambda sensors as the power loss issue occurs when she's been on a decent run, look forward to any help or advice, and will post back whatever I find as I try to eliminate this problem

Spoke too soon with fuel vapour smell in cabin, a few days later noticed smell again, bought a new fuel tank/pump seal from Fiat £30 and had it fitted, there was not much difference between the new and old seal condition wise, but its certainly cured the problem, mechanic mate said the slight wear on the old seal or maybe it wasn't sat quite right between pump and tank could have been the cause.

I'm not sure if i can use this thread to get some help, but since I'm having a running issue also I thought about asking.
I have a SPI seicento, and sometimes (I can't determine what causes it,) the revs bouce on their own. I have a high idle (witch is another issue) always above 1500 rpm and sometimes 2000 rpm, and the car drops and revs on its own. Does anybody have any tips to what causes this or how can i fix the bouncing idle and the high revs?

might be best to start a new thread with your specific issues or search through the forum as youll get more help that way

Havent used the car for a while and went to start it and a FPS issue showed up on the dash. I believe this is the fuel cut off switch but could that have been causing the bad running all along?

often these symptoms are caused by the sensor in the throttle body which is often called a stepper motor or idle control valve ...often you can take them out and clean them or just fit a new one they can be found on ebay or one of the reccomended traders on here even clean the throttle body with some carb cleaner spray again plenty of info on doing such on you tube /google ...hope this helps ..also worth pulling the spark plugs out and giving them a good clean with a wire brush . try all the above and hopefully it should help .

Just an update, changed the crank sensor finally and it was covered in much from the leaky rocker gasket, so far so good although I haven't driven far and it is cold.

Rocker cover gasket purchased and little bit of sealant so I can fit as per instructions on forum very soon.

Follow the torque settings accurately.

its pretty much just finger tight, 8Nm iirc - your average torque wrench doesnt go that low. My smallest torque wrench is 3/8 drive and its right at the end of its range so its not gonna be hugely accurate at the right setting as such i just judge it by hand with a 1/4 drive ratchet and go easy, better too loose and needs a nip after than go to tight and deform the gasket and need a new one basically. That said, i've not had one leak after i've touched it and done it many many times.
