Hey all,

had a sporting a few years ago which I sold to by something I thought was bigger and better.... at which point there were loads of cinqs about.

however I want one again as a non-daily to make minty fresh and original albeit with some subtle mods... I am thinking sleeper with 1242 engine.

the issue is I cannot find any suitable ones for sale.... have they all gone to the scrap in the sky or is everyone just holding on to them?

Am i wasting my time holding out a cinq sporting in red??? They all seem to be yellow or non-sporting....

thanks

Johnny

A lot of red ones faded which didn't help their survival rate. There are certainly not many left compared ti as few years ago. Just look at the graphs on howmanyleft.Com...

hi.

yes cinq sportings are hard to find over in ireland also :(

i think due to head gasket issues and clutchs there live's were short lived after they turned 10 years old.

we had a good few scrappage schemes, where dealers would give up tp 4k euro trade in on a new car,so many cinq's went that way.

there is also a culture over here for grass track racing,so many have gone to the race track in the sky.

i would have thought there would be plenty of sportings left in the uk.

red was a rare enough colour in a sporting.

best find the best sporting you can find, and dont worry about owners/mileage or colour.

get 1 now as every year that passes less of them are left.

I think a lot of good cars went to the crusher during the scrappage scheme a few years ago.

All a bit daft as they needed to be MOT’d and roadworthy to be scrapped....!

Thanks guys

These seem to be going the way of Uno's (ex Mk1 Uno Turbo owner here :slayer:)

I will try and wait it out for a red one.... I like the thought of keeping it original.

If nothing comes up I will have to consider another colour...

Although...

out of interest are all the shells the same...

i.e non-sporting vs sporting.?

Shell, brakes and most of the interior are the same between the s,sx and sporting

S has manual windows and no central locking, no centre console and no rev counter, sporting has all of the above and the sx has a mix/match of them

Sporting suspension is ever so slightly different, its 20mm lower (springs) from factory but this so far down the line it doesnt really matter.

engine wise the sporting has the 1.1 fire engine mated to a c514 dry shaft box so all the items on them differ to a none sporting, a none expensive list is drivers engine mount and plate that bolts to chassis, gearbox mounts front and rear (only bit that boltsto gearbox itself) gear selector cables and gear stick along with various wiring and piping differences

yes the shells are the same, but you would have alot of work on your hands.

getting a good red shell, then a donor sporting, changing everything over, then painting bumpers etc.

as mentioned, buy a good cinq sporting and dont worry about paint colour(y)

id be a fan of sportings in black or the dark blue.

ive 4 cinq sportings and there all steel grey, very few other colours over here in ireland, steel grey was the most common, and broom yellow,reds/blacks/blue wernt popular even when new.

there are 1 or 2 irish lads on here have red one's.

im sure there is a red one for sale out there, its just trying to find the card in a shop window,or ad in a free ad's newspaper:)

cinq sportings also had a close ratio gear box.

pop up a wanted ad here on the forum and see what happens.

sadly the days of cinq and even sei on every street corner are dwindling away.

if i were to start looking for a cinq now what i'd be looking for would be very simple...

any colour, any spec, good solid shell.. I mean obviously i have preferences too but if i found a really straight clean car, even if it was a non runner, i'd just buy that.

Even if you do find a red one its gonna be faded pink most likely, you wanna rip the engine out anyway and make it 'minty fresh'. This to me basically means full strip and deep clean everywhere and hopefully not find rust. So really, spec and colour arent gonna matter all that much imo.

blu73 has the same suggestion as myself.

buy on condition and not on colour, and not to much on spec, but idealy a sporting.

dont wait to long,as there a much unloved car still by the general public.

id say another year will see numbers down again.

end of the day the biggest difference between them when it comes to engine swaps and the like is the sporting has a different loom to the s and sx. Shouldnt be a massive deal but it is easier to engine swap a sporting just because the engine loom is separate to the body loom. But its not a huge deal to sort, easier than fixing a rusty shell anyway.
