I believe the above after time isn't even that good on a standard car, therfore turboing or highly tuning to get near or over 100bhp IMO requires more meatier stopping hence the Punto GT upgrade.

Would owners with such conversions please put their views on standard Vs Gt below please.

Its night and day Liam, there can not even be a comparison written about them because one set actually stop the car time and time again, and the others are as good at stopping as they are at telling the time!

But seriously the set up I have is brilliant, Punto GT callipers (which incidentally are found on Bravo/a's as well) with maxtorq non-grooved or drilled discs and Mintex M1144 pads, they provide endless amounts of stopping power and feel from the peddle but if anything you maybe need to be careful not to lock them up but this is not a problem if you feel the brakes rather than stomp on them as you may have be come used to wit the ineffective standard items. I would say that they are up there if not better than the Brembo 4 pot sI have on my integrale for out and out stopping ability, though they do only have to stop a car half the weight and less than half the power.

For those who do not know standard discs a re non vented solid diss which will not dissipate heat well and will fade not matter what you do to them including drilling or grooves. The GT discs are vented and bigger in diameter and therefore remain cooler for longer and offer a bigger area to which the brakes are applied, therefore the pads are much bigger as well.

The problem with the GT brakes is that they are non standard size and require 14 inch wheels to clear.

Standard sized vented discs are available but need a bit of fannying around to get them on.

They are Uno Turbo fitment and the discs have a greater offset to them. This is cured by having the standard sporting spacers machined down so that they fit inside the disc bell. The overall offset of the suspension remains the same, the spacers are just the other side of the disc.

The matching Uno turbo calipers use the same sized pad as the Punto GT so you get the same benefits there and the 1144 material is as good as you can get for allround use, although 171 is better, but now illegal. It contains asbestos.

Doesn't that only fit inside 15" wheels which kinda rules it out as some are put off the Punto GT set up as 14" wheels are needed.

I had to laugh tho when i was getting help fitting my engine from the red cinq into the imola when the guy who helped me who used to build &rally cars said on driving the red one 20ft, "wow, that car actually has brakes on it"

me and tom are working on a little set up at the minute that offers 120% more braking power than standard cinq calipers as tom found out and these WILL actually fit under 13s aswell :D ;)

Thats the worlds dodgiest estimate btw..

That was assuming brake system pressure remains constant, 120% more force is applied. Im not convinced on that personally, but its definately looking like less pedal push more stop :)

LMFAO, that little line explain jay quite well i think :p

back onto GT brakes.... they are truely amazing, ive got tar-ox drilled and grooved discs, and tar-ox fast road pads on mine and the stopping power is emmense.

but as aaron said, u do have to be careful of locking them up, especially when the road is slippy.... can be a bit un-nerving, but the controll you have over braking is very very impressive, ive supprised quite a few people with the stoppin power in mine :D
 
I have the red dot 6 groove and xk's (yes XK!!) and they are excellent but sooo noisy! They dont need heating up for normal driving but driving at high speeds they bite like a shark!

We are currently messing with a single pot caliper and a 280mm vented disc for the punto, just need some time to clean them up and make the bracket, as you all know this isn't a Saturday afternoon job especially when you have soo many things to do....:cool:

Punto Gt calliper is not even a sat afternoon job, its Sat i'm finished befre lunch job even tho I got up at 10am, they bolt straight on with no messing about.

Beleive me if you have driven a car fitted with this set up you would know what excellent brakes on a Cinq/Sei are, as the standard small, solid disc can't cope with a fast car, remember we are talking about a set up suitable for cars putting out nearly double and sometimes more than double the amount of power.

Looks like we might have to do a You'll sit in mine, I'll sit in yours then.

Only ever felt the Punto GT calipers in a Punto gt and I wasn't overly impressed.

6 groove and xe all round in an HGT was impressive though.

Ah but a Punto Gt is what 200kgs heavier than a Cinq and with more than double the power, think if you could strip 200kgs from a Punto GT and how much quicker it would stop even on standard Fiat discs and pads.

Punto GT is 1100kg so 300-400kg more like.

I see your point.
