Evening!
Ok, so I've done a thorough search and can't seem to find anything that will shed light on my problem. I've been doing a fair bit of work on my Sei spi for the last week, including new radiator and fan. Whilst underneath the front of the car I noticed the exhaust mani to downpipe has spacers between them. Hello, I thought, I'm sure thats needed for a 1242 conversion. However, when I bought the car a few years ago the guy said it was standard. So, I thought I'd check the engine number. After much cleaning, it appears that the number is so scratched it's illegible. I can see the number below it, which is "star" 5640067 but all I can see of the actual engine number is a very vague 176, which doesn't help me whatsoever!!!
So, are there any other ways to tell if its 1242? Number of teeth on cam sprocket etc? It's definitely got an 866 cam fitted, which was the first indicator that the guy who sold it to me didn't have a clue what was done to the car before he bought it!
Oh, just in case anyone might actually know the car (or have owned it), it's a red (pink) Sei Abarth Sporting S861 DOB.
Cheers,
Pat (y)

176 I think is Mk1 Punto, but they were available with the 1.1 engine. Fiat do tend to give engines a different prefix when fitted into different models, even if specs are the same. So this may be correct.

Lift the mat in the boot and see what the chassis plate says. It should show engine number/type, which gives a starting point.

I understand the 1.2 block is taller, hence your understanding of the exhaust spacers, but how to measure the height, from where to where I don't know. Hopefully my post may encourage others who know these answers to reply.

There have been several threads about fitting 1.2 into Sei, why not search for these and PM the originators, asking for the key differences.

Good luck.

was abit hard to find pictures on this but easiest way to tell the difference is the block height above the water pump, on a 1.1 the top of the water pump is level with the block, on a 1.2 the block is 20mm higher then the top of the water pump

this is a 1.1 as you can see just under the head the waterpump and block are level

the picture below is a 1.2 as you can see the block is 20mm or so higher then the pump

That should tell you
