Well it seems the frustrating trial and error diagnoses is over.
As you know i was not getting any codes so replaced sensors one at a time to see if it ran better.
I have now replaced the throttle body and Hallelujah it runs again how it should.
The TB i took off does not look that bad on the underside, i was expecting it to be badly coked up and probs with a wash out with solvo it will be fine to use.
I plan to run it now and later may swap back some of the sensors to see if it was any of them that were goossed.

There was no whiff of petrol with my Volvo.

The hoses had become cracked and porous, allowing air to be drawn through the rubber, but didn't allow petrol to escape.

It really does sounds as though you have an air/fuel problem somewhere.

If you can send a personal message to portland_bill and rallycing, they may shine some light on the problem. They both have a lot of knowledge and experience.

Ah .. just seen your post saying you'd cured it? Wasn't the fuel pressure regulator, was it..?

glad it sorted chap... back to happy motoring

Update:
Problem still there, no stalling but revs dropping as they were before.
Ordered and trying some coil packs next.
