Hi guys, wondering if I could get a little help? I've tried searching this issue but can't see anything as yet - I'm changing the belt on the Seicento (MPi) and I can't get the marks on the belt to line up anywhere near the marks on the pulleys - to make matters more confusing, the belt has three marks - two close together and one the other end - any help appreciated.

I done mine about a month ago and had the same problem so what I did was ignore the marks on the belt, turn the engine over till it's on top dead centre put a tipex mark on the old belt where the tdc mark on the cam cog is and same with the bottom cog, take the belt off and count the teeth in between the 2 tipex marks, then transfer the marks over to the new belt.
There's probably a better way but this worked for me.

as stated below, it's not always super simple..

maybe do the old trick of keeping the old belt in place..but slack.. then fit the new belt alongside it,

and carefully cut off the old belt

then wriggle the new one fully into position..

do let us know how it goes..,

Sorry to play Devil's advocate, but are you sure you have the right belt kit?

I know mine isn't MPI but all I did was mark up the top and bottom pulleys with marks on the head and crank oil seal housing with the engine at TDC and made sure they didn't move when tensioning. I've done this method once or twice on 8v non-interference engines and hasn't bit me in the arse yet, and yes I know its not the correct method but it works in times like these.

Just a suggestion?

Check the teeth pitch, there are 2 different belts. If correct, ignore the marks on the belt, use the pulley marks and give 4 full revolutions on the crank pulley after the job is complete to confirm the marks still line up.

yep agreed, if its the right belt jsut ignore the marks on the belt, i never bother trying to line them up, just line up the pulley with the timing marks, whack belt on, tension it, turn engine by hand for few full rotations and recheck timing marks are still lined up. job done
