Hi all

I'm preparing to fix some rust underneath my Seicento, to when the weather
gets better, and yesterday I had a good look around places to determine
what state it's in. The car is a 1 owner, an old lady who has done
32.000 kilometers in almost 17 years, so it's in great condition overall.
But, it has never had any rust treatment ever, and obviously have
surface rust here and there underneath, so now it's time to get ahead of it.

The boot also looks very good, but there was something that worried me a bit..
Down in the corners just behind the rear seat, the rubber sealing stuff
has started to get a little bit of a brown red tan to it, and im wondering
if it's serious rust, starting to protrude through the rubber sealing..?

I don't have a picture, but I found a pic of another fiat with the exact same thing.

It can be seen to the far right:

It's a usual rust/rot area on all Seicentos and Cinquecentos.
It will be coming from the outside inner wheel arch.
Jack the car up take the wheel off and it should be clearly visible.

If you catch it earlier enough you should be able to clean off any flakey stuff, rub the area down, brush on a good quality rust treatment as instructed, then apply 2 or 3 layers of brushable underseal. Make sure you do the whole 'lip' area even underneath and up the inside edge.

You will need to keep an eye on the area and retreat as and when required.
Worst case it will require some plates welded and then treated. 20161214_113624.jpg

This was mine and I had to plate and treat various areas. See pic below.

Ok guess it might be worse than I thought.. Think I'll have a closer look tomorrow, and maybe post some pics. Thank you for the thorough explanation!

.... & once the rusty area is treated fit plastic rear arch liners to help it stay rust free for longer.
They were designed for the Cinq but will fit the Sei Sporting with a little work.
