Yes I'm day dreamining, but hey whats the harm?

There are two routes I see, buy a high boost 1.1 and transfer the turbo over, or low boost the 1.2 and then turn that to high boost.

Which would work best?

And what exactly is the difference?

a high boost setup requires a lower compression ratio. you'll need ideally custom low comp pistons to acheive that. a copper HG spacer could be used, buit not the ebst way to go about it.

first you gotta find a 1.1 hb turbo. but it`d probably be easier to get a lb 1242 turbo and covert to hb.

Yeah...Piston skimming may or may not be an option, but failing that, to lower CR to ~8.5:1 you'd need a 1.35mm HG Spacer. and that'd cost ~£100 to get made!

Ive done the maths involved and it isn't pretty, but ~130BHp is

the low boost 1242 is pretty impressive as it stands, em's (althought in a sei) was pushing out very nice bhp for a low boost.
best thing is to give van aaken a ring and just talk to them about ideas, they are nice blokes

What was Emm's pushing in the end?

90bhp?

That can be seen from a N/A 1242 so personally I would say go balls out and go for High Boost whats the price of a set of custom pistons hey! ;)

97bhp, and bags more torque than a 90bhp n/asp 1242 will produce. Will give a very different driving experience.

Fair enough, would still rather fork out an extra say 500notes for custom pistons though and get an extra say 30bhp! :)

A while ago I drove in a Cinq 1.1 0.5 bar turbo and I was thinking...this is slow. After some measurements with the G-tech the WHP was the same as my car ith the 1.2 1 bar turbo.

The rpm signal didn't work so I couldn't measure the torque.
But High pressure turbo's on long stroke engine give a lot of more fun plessure.

Very true and I'm right with you.

So apart from pistons, intercooler what is the difference between an VA LB and a HB?

Darn, got the turbo bug now,

May have to have a chat with VA come the new year

Hey Firewarrior, you have got to see my cinque when its done, looks totally different.

Now all I want is 2 more 6X9s an amp and a psscht

why do u say that arc?

if a cosworth running 2 bar of boost is ok with this method a 0.5 bar FIRE will be fine

better than machined down std pistons and a lot cheaper than forged pistons

6x9s are gash man, get some comps instead (y)

just from what i've read over time, spacer not the best way of doing it - though it does have clear cost adavantages over forged pistons!

So a spacer has the same sort of effect on the CR then, hmm

I smell a project coming along

Gotta get enough aside for low boost yet though

And to beastjay, I hear ya man, but I can get 6X9s in my door pocket so easily. . . Just too tempting.
