Technical Seicento 5th Gear

So nothing i did made a difference and gearbox was still acting as it should (On good days) Then i found this. I presume bracket A is meant to be held in place with nut B. Not put it on yet as i had no tools with me when i took the picture.

That's yer problem. It's throwing out the alignment of the gear linkage cables. They are very finickey, if they aren't perfect they lock out gears (normally 5th).

Sorry forgot to get back with this one. Aye the bracket was put back on and i had a little bit right movement when looking for 5th but i do mean little. So looking at the cable im thinking if it was working loose but no. No clean area on the threads and the lock nut was tight. I turned the socket joint in two turns what made it worse so ended out tuning it out a full four turns what is giving me a right movement when driving. Took the car out the back roads and did a bit rally car driving and never missed the gear once (y)

What is odd about this is the car (2000 model) has only just turned 40k miles so i presume the original clutch and gear cables. Did this come out the factory like this. Previous owner may not have noticed as it was an older couple who used it as a town car, nipping to Tesco and the likes.

Anyway, thanks for your impute guys. Appreciated as usual. Cheers (y)

Like i said, they are a bit finecky and the brackets need to be spaced perfectly, aligned the right way etc, they do sometimes take a little adjustment to sort.

My guess, if the car belonged to an older couple, was the clutch has been changed (probably because the thrust bearing wore through the fingers through riding the clutch, rather than pressure plate wear) and the repairer just forgot how they went together.
