Well i officially hate my cinq today.... went to go to work jumped in seat and it was soaking wet and had no rigidity to it :)p) temp sunroof fix had leaked v badly... grabbed a towel to sit on to drive to work, went to start the car and the starter wouldnt even try to turn even though there was plenty of power (dash lights and interior light bright as normal) got some jump leads on it from the sei and got her started first time, disconnected the jump leads and accidently stalled  she then struggled to start at all.. as if out of power just turning over very slowly before bursting back into life... anyone got any ideas what this could be, im thinking pos starter motor in which case i do have a spare, but wouldnt explain why it started easily with the jump leads connected from the sei? and how hard is a starter motor to change with the motor in situ? only ever done it with engine on floor which is piece of easy stuff really :p

Watch this space for a 10 Things i hate about you thread about my cinq  :D (followed by 10 things i love about you probably :D) and on the plus side the sunroof is finally booked in and should be sorted by wednesday :slayer:

try giving the starter motor a tap before anything and it if starts then that is likely the problem.

however if it still doesn't try to start even though the lights were on I would say it was a bad earthing point.

take the earthing strap off and clean the area it attaches to as well as the strap itself.

then apply wd40 or vaceline to everything and try again.

maybe what i said last night was true :( i didnt mean it honest

when my starter went it didnt even try to start, could be alternator mate, sounds like what been happening to mine lately. check voltage on battery to see if its charging (should be around 14), if you have a voltmeter that is.

if it is the starter i did it on my car a few months ago when it went, its a bit tricky but its doable for you lol

everything else on car is fine, no warning lights at all where does the starter motor earth to or does it share a common earth with the rest of the loom in that area?

when i bought the car it did have a very faded alternator warning light on although i think through daily use it has just disappeared over time (before it wasnt a daily driver and was left standing a long time at a time kinda thing) but this hasnt been on since the day i got it (3 months or so now)

Tried to reinsure the sei today too but they wont let me put the sei on as a additional car because its worth more than the cinq :bang:

there wasnt any warnings on my car, just died as it were :(

as i said when you get back test voltage on the battery(make sure car is running), if its low then the alternator isnt charging the battery, if its fine then its the starter motor. get a hammer and hit motor a few times (it does work) if no joy then you need a new one, i can get you one for 65 quid but i`ll need your old one.

will try giving it a slap later, but if its the starter cant see why it would only start with the sei jump leads, so possibly wiring or something  not a clue where to start really, i have a spare starter sitting in the garage from old cinq though :p

try that, if no luck then try the wiring, check for splits and obvious loose wires. make sure all wires are hooked up to starter before you take it off incase one has come off so you dont take it all off then find that out lol.

incase you think of it you dont need to jack car up :p

can you get to the starter from above? i only ever done it from behind (urm   )

its under inlet manifold yeah :p check alternator isnt dead first, plus wait for engine to cool down before sticking your hand in engine bay please alex :p
i know what your like;) lol

how would that affect it jamie if all dash lights are all bright etc? in previous experience all lights have been very faded and even then the starter will try to turn :p will still check the alternator/belt though (y)

Hmm ok i skim read that first post...

BUTl when my alternator belt snapped my lights etc still worked but wasn't spinning the alternator or water pump ;)

yes when mine went all other electrics worked fine just didnt have the power to start the car. they`ll be enough charge left in battery to keep things running but not enough to start car.
