any ideas why my car hesitates when flooring it when cold? i know i shouldnt and should let it warm up but this hesitation is annoying. it does it to a lesser extent when warm also and can have this annoying hesitation when sort of mid pedal range cruising if you know what i mean. had new headgasket, plugs, leads, coils. just wondering if its anything to do with throttl pot?

ive also had this problem on my cinq and found its the same on my sei when its cold, i came to conclusion fiat had built some sort of special device into the car to stop you flooring it when cold :p

Hi there

If problem is still there when hot it could be a Lambda problem...
Also the temp. sensor in the induction could be covered in dirt from the rocker cover. Try and clean both sensors and see if it helps.
Do also check the vacuum hose for the MAP sensor while you're at it - check it for leaks and make sure it's not blocked off...

Normally the hesitation problem goes away completely and you'll get rid of the original flat spot @ 2500-3000 rpm. if you get a custom re-map.

It is correct that some induction kit's can help getting rid of the flat spot, but haven't heard of induction kit's that helped on hesitation.

Hey Custard boy
: did the bigger TB help with your overfueling probs?
Have you noticed any different in turbo lack?

you shouldn't push the car when it is cold, this is why your headgasket went in the first place.

the car should be min a qtr of the temp gauge up before flooring it before that the car must be driven below 3k rpm to ensure your causing no damage to the engine.

remember oil needs to warm up before it is working 100% magetec oil doesnt work as they say it does.

hesitiation when the car is warm will have alot to do with how often the car is serviced, air filters must be replaced or cleaned every 5-6k miles oil changed 5-10k miles or 6months whichever sooner, leads once a year and spark plugs every 6 months.

Doing the above or sooner will make the car run very well, if you cars oil gets black quite quickly after doing an oil change then consider doing an engine flush to remove carbon build up in the engine.

im an ex mechanic so i know all that sh**e.
the hesitation is as you accelerate not at 3k rpm. there is slight hesitation at 3k rpm but its all the time and not too bad. i suppose you could call it a flat spot. might try clean the sensort in the air box in case it is minging. and its a 899cc so it aint getting a re-map. :D

cheers all

oh and when i did the headgasket i t didnt really need doing after all. the arse had fallen out of the rad and dumped most of the coolant. the sludge in the header tank was rusty foamy water. still, it got a decoke out of it didnt it? (y)

well i was out for a run today :)
definatly more responsive from standstill and it seems to build up boost quicker :D
havent done a lot of miles so i think the ECU is getting things set up still.when i was out today it was hesitant on partial throttle but pulling nicely on full throttle. dont think the guy in his new golf was impressed on the motorway today having a cinq pull away from him :D

Nice one..

The 40mm TB allows more flow and should theoretically help reducing turbo lack, but it haven't bin proved yet...
I hope you'll get a re-map and a RR some time so we can se different before/after fitting the Tricker TB :)
And maybe some 0-60 results before/after :)

need to get it done soon but it will have to wait as i need to move house soon :( although with a bit off overtime you never know ;)
looking forward to getting it set up as i feel theres more there at certain parts of the rev range the fuelling is holding back. cars getting there though :)
