I wasn't seriously looking at turbo'ing my car for some time, then the other day i was farting around with a GT12 off an MCC smart - and pete suggested binnig it and buying a golf tdi turbo, quick look on ebay and now i have a KKK03 turbo on my desk as well. Its not the GT15 i was expecting, but its the same class so should be fine.

annnyway, i'm still not turbo'ing it anytime soon. I'm going to able through, collecting bits and do it myself. (uh oh!)

I have a turbo, soon to have an FCD, soon to have a std exhaust manifold to butcher, and have been looking at MF2's.

Am now trying to figure out just how to fit the turbo into the bay. Just had a quick look and the big junction of waterpipes looks like it may well be in the way. Do vad/novitec modify that?

Am i right in thinking the std exhaust manifold is used, cut, flange welded on and then turbo bolted onto that? Need to figure out the best way of attaching it to this.

On the wastegate actuator, there are two boost lines. One goes into the turbo, the other is just cut. Where on ur car does the other one run too, the MF2?

How do i adjust how much boost the wastegate set to.. or do i just buy a new actuator to change it.

If anyone could take any photos of their engines around the area where the turbo is, to give me an idea how to fit this all in. Also, the oil lines.

Cheers people :)

from memory the oil feed for the turbo comes from the filter housing to the turbo.
try and sort out pics asap

hope you can make out the pics.you can see the oil feed on the top of the turbo and it entering the filter housing opposite the lambda. also you can see where the lamda is now situated over an NA cinq

you can see how the exhaust is routed by the below the bumper pics.note that is the car on the road lowered 50mm.see how low the pipe is to the road!

well maybe soon :D depends if a little purchase comes thorugh ;)
dont know how much you would see with the rad and intercooler in the way,is it not pretty solid in front of where the turbo is?havent had a front bumper of in a while. need to get the bumper of soon anyway to check the intercooler and hoses

Custards correct the oil feed comes off the filter houseing as if you look at it, it has 2 allen bolts which can be removed which makes me think that they coudl be used on a N/A car as an oil cooler feed and return no problem, its the top one from the 2 that is used.

You also need to cut a hole then weld a small pipe onto the sump to take th turbo oil return.

Standard manifomd is used and cut as you rightly said.

You need to relocate the lambda sensor on the down pipe as the turbo gets in the way once its mounted.

You also need to lengthen the water pipe that runs along the front of the engine from the water pump to the 4 way branch thing next to the rad so that the rubber pipe that connects to it misses the turbo.

You will also need to either re-route the water pipe to the expansion tank from the same 4 way thing caos its runs very close to the turbo and normally melts. I've relocated mine to route over th etop now which you can see in my engine pics, but before it had a brass U bend section put in to route it past the down pipe, and on Emma's turbo Cinq it is has had a proper long maybe 12" by 12" L bend pipe made up to take it past and up to the expansion tank.

If you had said yesterday I would have taken pics as I had my bumper off meshing it up today as well.

If theres anymore I can remember I'll pass it on.

Aaron.

thanks guys (y)

lambda sensor can be relocated to the second sensor gap no problem. I've got a spare sump, so can sort that out no problem, does the pipe just drop into it - anywhere in particular?

with regards to an oil cooler, seeing as though i'm going to putting a line into the sump anyway is there any reason why i shouldnt take the feed from the filter housing, into an oil cooler, into the turbo and back to the sump - not *really* going to need a sandwhich plate then.

Like i said, this is going to take a long time do - i'm in no rush, and want to learn whats going on all the way through, so im not in a big rush for photos of bits, if you're going to the bumper off any time in the future though - some pics would be nice :)

maybe i should get one of those for mine lol

I know i can't believe your doesn't have one and it runs properly, unless it hidden away somewhere else but can't think why they woudl do that.

Does the injector light come on on teh dash when you put the keys in the ignition and then go out after 10secs or so? It does this on all Cinqs turbo'd or not except Emma's turbo that is which doesn't light up at all which leads me to think the bulb has been removed although it has a Super Chips FCD fitted.

£620 for a Coupe 20VT Turbo!
I paid substantially less than that for a lovely midrange-torque-boosting hybrid. :yum:
