OK we had a conversation over in the Fiat section so thought I woudl bring it over here as its relevant.

https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?p=501823#post501823

So as you can see the Cinq got an updated handbrake which was carried over to the Sei, so I wonder if anyone has ever changed over the handbrakes to see whats involved, i.e. what actual parts changed.

I still have my red Cinq which has the updated handbrake and may take the time out to change it over to the Imola seeing as its handbrake is not brilliant but would like to know whats involved.

Of course if its fairly straight forward it could be the cure to all Cinq handbrakes woes!

Cheers Em :)

A small amount of wear in the drums makes a huuuge difference to the braking effect. I've rebuilt a couple with new cable, linkages, drums and shoes (just standard spec kit) and purely as an example..... no kicking off please... you can lock the rears at speed with 195 width tyres on.

I think mines has the Sei setup however the VIN brings up a diff cable at the stealers.

For anyone who says their handbrake is crap, fitting some new bits and gettign the right cable should be the cure, like Pete, Em and Aaron I'm happy with mines.

my hand brake is top marks for strength. just pull it up and it holds it in place. I tested it on the road up to the cat and fiddle and guess what it worked an absolute treat.

so mines another that actually works, guys.

The point of this thread was not a "mine works does yours" but an information excercise in that if Fiat themselves actually changed and updated the handbrake, it was for good reason, i.e the original one is ok when everything is new, but give it a bit of use and once its worn at all, its hopeless, as many on here will testify. Therefore if you do need to replace items on the brakes to get them to work correctly, for an MOT for instance, then why not use it as a time to update to the improved set up that will last longer and give a better more progressive handbrake.

THerefore does anyone else know what apart from the cable was changed in the update to gauge maybe how much is involved not only in mechanically changing the items, but maybe a rough idea of cost from the EPR.

I don't know the mechanisms very well, but the cinq has a small wheel on there - the sei doesnt.

These are from eper, and are of the sei h'brake. I'll post the cinq ones in a sec

and here are the second two.

ive done this as seperate posts because often the order of attachments is changed, and it'd just confuse things.

Its listed as the design having changed on Dec 10th 1997

I'd put money on the second Cinq type being simply a Seicento setup, a bit like the airbaggedy wheels. Bet you they ran out of Cinq types and fitted the later type rather than order a new batch for the Cinqy from their suppliers.

The suppliers may even have discontinued the original setup and changed tooling etc. for the later type.

Not being pedantic, but I would say the Sei has the updated Cinq handbrake, not the Cinq has a Sei handbrake as the Cinq came first, you don't evolve backwards only forwards ;)
