Hi folks, just joined the forum so hoping you can help. I have a seicento 1.1 sport which has just had a new battery and alternator fitted. The alternator isn't charging the battery however when checked it is giving a good output which isn't getting to battery. Has anyone got any ideas other than perhaps faulty alternator.

Either a faulty unit or a bad earth/wiring to the battery, can you not check the voltage at the battery when running? It should be going between about 12.8-14.5

Thanks Orangegokart, voltage at battery indicates alternator not charging it but voltage from alternator indicates that alternator is working, going to check earthing/battery wires later today

If the voltage at the alternator is ok, try running a new cable up to the battery to see if that works. I assume your battery light is on?

Thanks guys, turns out it was a loose earth bond from gearbox to wheel arch and a loose stud on the alt. Car started and voltage at battery steadily rising, happy days (hopefully)!!
