[}:)]on my cinq sporting (yellow!!!!!) i have a k+n 57i and a centre exit 3" sportex exhaust apart from that the engine is standard. now and even before i fitted the above i sometimes get a small flat spot while accelerating? not all the time but usually when the engine is cold sometimes when its hot?????? really puzzling me. any ideas ????

there's a flat spot around 3k revs but the k&n should iron that problem out. First things first, Replace the spark plugs with Bosch Super4's and replace the ignition leads. see how that goes, if money isn't a problem, go for Magnecor Leads.

If that don't fix it, could be the Lambda sensor which are about £60 to replace. It's a much needed item and VERY delicate so if you remove it, DON'T drop it, or it's a trip to fiat for a replacement.

Other symptoms may include, blocked fuel filter, blocked injector and incorrect fuel pressure.

Hope that helps

Sorry, hate to be a to$$er, but bosch plugs dont really agree with fiat engines. We fitted loads on services and most came back within 3 or 4 weeks with missing and backfiring problems. Replaced the plugs with NGK's and they run fine after that. [8)]

When mine is cold there is a bit of a flat spot around 2.5k, only for a few minutes when first started though. Dont notice it anymore though, I start the engine in a morning and then have a fag. By the time I've finished the fag the engine and car is warm and mist free inside:D!

Very technical instructions on removing cold flat spot (only for advanced mechanics):

1, start engine

2, have fag

3, when fag is finished, get in car and drive off

My car could rattle itself to bits on the way home and my head could be pierced by a stray part of bonnet.

It cant be that bad....imagine 5 cd cases in each door pocket and a 900cc engine at redline at 90mph....:D

Have to say I think Super 4's work well on cinq/sei engines.

i've replaced the plugs, almost threaded one of them cause of lack of access! checked sensors etc everything seems to be ok? the flat spot is still there but only every now and then???? and yes it is about 2.5 0r 3 thousand revs? seems common???

Is it a serious cough and splutter hesitation or just a feeling that it's sorta backing off ever so slightly?

Pete.

Blimey, that is exactly what my sei sporting does - the feeling it is backing off everso slightly if you keep ther revs steady anywhere between 2 and 3 thou, and intermittently - and fiat don't know how to fix it.

They've had it in a few times, all work under warranty of course, but I'm starting to lose patience.

I've tried the Bosch super 4s to no avail - you sound like you know what to do next - help!

Tom

Thank you, please drive through.

Have you checked ignition leads and spark thingies (the connector between the cable and the plu itself). They broke 2 times at my car (of cause it needed a little searching until finding the cause for the stuttering/hesitation/...), they seem to be of a s**tty quatity.

All SPI Cinqs and Seis have a slight hesitation around the 3000 rev mark, it's a peculiarity of the map on the engine management system. Not sure about the later MPI ones though.

A faulty MAP sensor or lambda sensor can cause this to become more obvious, and won't necessarily show up on a diagnostic test.

Superchipping removed all traces of the hesitation on mine:), and a decent induction kit can help if that's the path you wish to take.

Welcome to the forum, too[8D]
