Hey up guys just got a little abarth sei and the steering feels quite heavy where as my old one felt really light do all of them come with power steering or was it an extra the little wheel on the instrument binical doesn't light up on ignition either any ideas?? Ta

You may have one of the very rare ones without PAS. I think that since your steering light doesn't come on with the ignition may be an indication it's not got it.

I'm not sure on the actual differences as far as telling whether it has PAS or not, other than the ones with PAS have very heavy steering when it's disconnected, whereas non PAS seicentos feel reasonably normal.

Personally I think the non-PAS ones are far better :D

I am pretty sure they are electric PS, and it is on the column under the dash. Should be easy to spot the servo assy under there.

I'm with cento186 non PS all the way, more feel, more control.

Plus if you're driving correctly ie not trying to turn the steering without the wheel rolling, you don't need it anyway.

Mines on a t reg it might not have it at all but there is nothing in the hand book that it's an optional extra etc I know my w reg black one had it as it was mega light ile have a look under the collom tomorrow

Wiki-do-da lists power steering as an optional extra on pre-2001 Sportings & Abarths.
I've had PAS & non-PAS, personally i prefer PAS.... untill it goes wrong :(

I've never driven a car without power steering, lol!

As any Cento owner will probably confirm, when you get in a friends/family car with PAS after being in a Cento, it feels way way too light, horrible haha.

It's more relaxing, but you miss the proper feel. Besides, I only think about power steering when I'm parking, any other time it's pretty reasonable.

Fair enough, lol! I started learning to drive in 2007, and the cars I've owned have been a Daewoo Matiz, a Punto mk2b, and I now own a Grande Punto, lol!

I'm not a fan of modern electric power steering, hydraulic PAS can be good though. My Alfa 155s that I've had in the past had wonderful steering and handling, both with quick rack and standard rack.

My Cinq feels like sticking your fingers in the mains compared to the Panda 100hp we had, so much more alive! :D

Power steering is like wearing a condom, peace of mind, but no feel. Non pas centos are like wearing a ribbed one inside out.

Never driven without pas, makes me feel old. Until my first cinq, all my cars had only 4 gears.

Since then, I've had an x300 xj6 jag and the Alfa 146 with pas.

Mini 1000, nova, Renault 5, Clio, aixam 500, and two cents. All without pas. (y)

I am sitting on the Non PS side of this fence, so much so I am ripping it all out of my Sei later this year to replace it with a Non PS set-up, you just get such a better feel when driving hard or racing.
