That big black box with pipes and wires is getting on my tits.
Can I throw it away or is my ecu not going to like the fact it is not there anymore. I have read an old post about junking it, but is my mot man going to wag his finger at me, or worse are vosa going to have me tried and hanged for crimes against the environment.

I doubt it still does anything after 20years anyway.

It'll still be fully functional after 20 years, and technically will be illegal to remove, so I'd just leave it be

Check the regs (on line somewhere) but I think the cannister is not part of the MOT. (May be part of Construction and Use which is not part of MOT.)

On some cars (like the Sei) it's so well hidden that checking isn't viable unless you really, really, **** VOSA off.

An alternative solution may be to place it in the wing a la Sei.

Chuck it, blank it at the TB, wiggle the solenoid from the Cannister, leave it plugged in (no EML), tie it up somewhere, done.

Possible tank pressure buildup with these, I just stuck a tiny tiny hole in the filler cap.

Is the sei unit smaller?

Depending on my plans, the exhaust may need to go through there and exit in front of the wheel, so hot exhaust and fuel are not a good idea.

Pressure build up shouldn't be a problem, I have the tank and filler out at the mo to fix a leak, the filler unit in the rear arch has a breather pipe with what looks like a one way valve.
Would connecting the blue return pipe to the tank, to the tb resolve any evap issues, or is that a fire risk in the case of a backfire through the tb. I doubt it would flash down it.

I have nothing against the unit being there, it's just every time I work on anything under the bonnet or underneath, that large plastic thing is always where my arm or hand needs to be, and the pipe work is getting me riled.

I've never compared them!

Easy way would just be to remove it.

I haven't ran mime for 6 years, all I did was take the pipes off the canister, snapped the sensor off and kept it plugged in

That is to let air into the tank as the fuel level drops without letting any fuel vapour out.

jatkinson, what did you do with the blue plastic pipe from the tank? Leave open, or seal. Or feed to throttle body?

Leave vented. It is the pressure vent from the tank. makes some nice trumpet noises in the summer when the pressure builds up
