When doing my bumper brackets and being asked by a fellow FF'r to provide pics of my rear bumpstops I took a few snaps.

Anyway before this I had a clunking from the rear, bushes changed to Powerflex didn't help and I was thinking the springs were too long or the shocks were too short, what I mean is the clunking could be the shocks being forced to rebound due to the bumpstop being too big.

Now I had the shocks and springs fitted by a garage and thought the bumpstops would be cut accordingly but they look untouched.

Do you need to cut them?

Do my rears look too big?

Anyone done the rears themselves?

Here is the pic, the sock is unloaded.

Yeah Liam, they need cutting. I'd recommend cutting them halfway (where there is a groove around the thing)

Cutting it is then boys and girls!

Do they come loose easy enough? or must I drop the arm and take out the spring?

Would a large hacksaw do the job?

Cheers

Yes, a bread knife would even do it. I did not both to cut mine. Might be interesting to see how different yours is once you have cut them.

My mum would kill me!

Yes it will be interesting, if it gets rid of the clonking, one of my mates will have a very red face!

Thanks

Ok, just looked, mine's alot smaller that liams. Infact, I think my bell end is missing!  ....there is a small bump there though.

The right hand side one looks like its on its last legs, nearly fell off in my hands! Where can I get a replacement, and is it a big job?

Also, should I uprate my shocks? It seems I got sum standard ones. They are turquoise....

Nah I wouldn't say so, jack up and support rear, remove wheels, release lower sock mounts, drop arms down, remove and replace bumpstops and re-assemble!

Ok, update on this.

Done as I stated above tonight, was easy when you type it but a trifle more tricky in practice!

To make like really easy, two jacks would be handy, by this I mean two trolley jacks, on to hold up a side and the other to lower and raise the arms when your working.

Anyway, the bumpstops are held in place by a 13mm bolt, easy enough to take off when the arm is fully lowered and you use a rachet, socket and little extension.

I cut the bumpstops in half and wow! On testing the clunk has disapeared! Can't believe I put up with that for so long!

Job didn't go completely to plan though as one of my springs needs seated properly, on testing I could hear it rubbing somewhere so I'll strip it out and re-locate it tomorrow.

Thanks for everyones advice, I'm well chuffed!

Pics of the cut bumpstops tomorrow.

Any idea where I might be able to get my mits on a copy ;)
