Car won't start.

Hi. I bought a Cinq Sporting for my daughter. The problem is the car won't start. The engine turns over but nothing else. Before this the centre locking system was playing up and I don't know if this has anything to do with anything. Had a garage to call and shook his head saying he would need another guy to look at it. A cost of 800 was mentioned but not what may be the cause of the problem. Could anyone offer some help? Thanx.

Try the basic things first. There's a fuel cutoff switch inside the car behind the centre console mounted on the bulkhead - there's a reset switch on the top of it, try pressing it to see if it helps.

Take a plug lead off and put a nail or similar in the end, place it about 1/4 inch away from the cylinder block or cam cover, get an assistant to turn the engine over and see if you have a spark.

After prolonged cranking, is there a smell of petrol from the exhaust?

When you first turn the ignition key to position 1 (before starting the engine) can you hear the fuel pump start for 2 seconds or so then stop? (listen towards the back of the car with driver's door open)

Hope some of this helps.

Pete.
