Hi
I want to black tint spray my rear lights(not to dark),would it be better to tint a set of nonsporting rear lights or is tinting the red ones o.k.
I`m a bit concerned as i don`t want to obscure the lights to much,
Cheers
Adrian

Hey,
My bro tinted his starlet lights which were red, orange and white and they turned out fine.
If you do spray them, spray them lightly and walk away for half an hr or so, he sprayed his, thought they were'nt dark enough, only wanting a light tint like you, and did them straight away again and now they won't pass MOT over ere. He got 2 cans of spray in his pack and only used half of 1.

To stay legal you either have to mask out the reflectors or put some stick on reflectors on the back end somewhere.
Two coats is usually sufficient but you can't really tell until you have polished it in.

Stick to that and you'll be fine.

I am going for the proper black look on my lights. Going to get some relflectors from halfords tomorrow to keep it legal.

I put two coats of tint on my Sporting (pink!) rear lights and they were too dark so I stripped it off with paint thinners and the lenses cracked. I glued tham back together and re-tinted them to cover the cracks and bought a spare set from the scrappies for when it has to be tested - then I can just swap the tints back on.

Stick the lenses in an oven at 50-60degC, give them one good light coat and leave for fifteen minutes to dry - then decide if you want to go darker. The oven treatment gives the best gloss finish ever - too cold and you will get a manky matt finish.

Let us know how you get on adrian, I fancy tinting mine but scared of making it look really cr*p.

Hi
I think i might get some sx rear lights to tint then if i hate them i could always put the red ones back in,
Cheers

heres mine i figured they weren't dark enough so they are now darker as within 3 hours of having them a paxo driver smashed them so had to re do one so figured why not make them darker will try and get new pics they totaly black now can't see hardly any light thou

I sprayed mine up a while back, but they came out really dark (mainly due to me being impatient and applying layer after layer).
I had to get a spare set to use for MOT, but decided to only use the black ones for special occasions. Its to easy to get pulled with them fitted.
here they are

I think they look great tho

I've tinted mine, but done the reflectors aswell...

I went to a local MOT place to check if they were ok, and the bloke said they would pass as long as I bought a stick on reflector and put it somewhere on the back of the car. (y)

I bought a set of 4 from ebay for 2 quid.

i've never been pulled for my lights they normaly have other things 2 **** me over for like speedin

not keen on spraying red lights at all... you always get a dirty bit of red showing underneath the tint. looks so blatant that you've just bought a 12 quid can of spray and boshed em out (n)

only thing i'd consider doing to my back lights at the mo is either black lexus style or maybe professional tinting.

police pulled me so many times in my 106, checked the lights for about 5 minutes. all they looked for was the emark on the original lights and they were fine with it.

would window tiniting film work on rear lights? just wondering.. as if it was too dark you could easily peel it off again

Wou'dn't have thought they'd withstand the weather well and would suffer due to the raised markings on the light lens'.

might shrivel up from the heat as i was told not 2 use my heated rear window on my window tints but don't know if that is true as i haven' dared test it yet
