I'm considering a cam swap when I fit my Punto engine.

Does anyone have the cam timing/lift figures for a stock Cinq Sport cam & a Punto 75 cam .I want to compare these to the 268 & 280 cams made by Colombo & Bariani . I'm not sure whether to bother looking for a 75 cam or just go for a new one .

Tricker - if you're reading this , what cam do you have in your Cinq ??
Thanks
John

I'll post this on here as I can't find the other thread.

I was given this info by Blitzen, a chap who used to frequent the forum. Took me ages to eventually find it.

Cinq cam:

Inlet opens 7' BTDC closes 37' ABDC (224')
Exhaust opens 37' BBDC closes 7' ATDC (224')
Overlap 14'
Lift 8.8 mm

Punto 75 cam:

Inlet opens 7' BTDC closes 41' ABDC (228')
Exhaust opens 43' BBDC closes 5' ATDC (228')
Overlap 12'
Lift 9.5 mm

I'm not sure where this info originally came from, though.

I know that the sportcam from novitec is almost the same as that one from a punto 75.

I think this is a bit far fetched.

Anyway the Punto 75 cam can be improved by re-profiling as long as it isn't be done by Piper, Kent or Newman.

Isnt that most of the major cam re-profilers in the UK?

So who can you recommend then?

MW.

Kent is rather limited in knowledge when it comes to Italian cars.

I had too many problems with Piper as had others. And they are rather limited to in know how when it comes to Italian stuff.

Newman is very good to use when you have a ready made application and want to make runs. You have to be very specific when approaching them as they can be very vague in their approach when it comes to development work.

Hi, I'm also thinking of fitting a performance camshaft to my car a Fiat Punto MK1 1242cc 8v SPI, I buyed a standard camshaft and am thinking of having it re-profiled to performance Fast Road.

I was wondering if anyone had done it before here ? Someone with a 55/60/75 "FIRE" engine ? Are there any special needs, do I have to be careful about something in special ?

In another forum I've been told that I can not fit straight in a performance camshaft to this engine, they say I have to get different shims, what are your experiences with this ?

Please comment and help. Thank you all. :)

Just make sure you fit a new cam seal to prevent an oil leak.

New shims will be needed and the gaps would be different if the cam is re-profiled (made taller and shorter and longer lobes etc in different places)

You need a certain clearance for the inlet and exhaust and the shims act as a spacer to get this right, get it wrong and the engine sounds like a diesal.

.

The gaps are only different only with re-profiled original cam or are they also if I buy a new performance camshaft ? I didn't understood sorry...

Is sounding like a diesel the only problem ? Or can it really damage the engine ?

Have you fitted a performance or re-profiled camshaft in your car ?
Where can I get the shims ? Fiat ?
Can anyone get me a picture of one ?

Thanks for your help and please reply. :)
