Hi.
I have a 2001 Seicento sporting and the engine warning light flashes when I go over about 60 mph. It goes out again if I slow down.
The engines seems to be running OK and still pulls fine.
Before I fork out to take it to a garage is there anything obvious I should check. I was going to inspect HT leads and probably change the spark plugs.
Any other suggestions welcomed.
Thanks!!

If you look in the owners manual (if you have one) the flashing engine management light is an emissions problem/CAT damage

Best get a diagnostic done

Speaking from experience i would suspect the 02 sensor or one of the sensors down there is caked in road salt/dirt that is more frequent on the roads during these colder times and is sending a misread to the ECU and will need cleaning/replacing

When i had the eml light flashing it indicates a miss fire, you might not feel it when your driving but the ecu will find it.

At night open the bonnet and see if there is a blue flash down where the plugs are, don't put your hand down there with the engine running though or you might flash lol

It tells you when doing the re-calibration of the phone wheel, the eml would flash continuously until the correct rpm was reached 3 times so i wouldn't have thought this was the problem as it only starts flashing 60+ mph and that was the same as mine and my ht leads had failed.

That's what happens when you clear the data with diagnostic equipment and initiate a phonic re-learn.
Random multiple misfire, if that's what code is available, is usually related to the phonic wheel. It could be a set of really bad old leads now the weather is cold and damp but would play up from start up?
A flashing EML light in closed loop could be other things so a code reader is the first step being an EOBD2 car.

I have kind of same trouble with my Seicento 2002 but my lamp is on all the time... The car works perfect and normal but strange to have a warning lamp lighted up all the time.. Any ideas where to start check to get rid of the problem?

Looking forward to read inputs!

Cheers Per

Ok, thanks! Sounds like a visit at a fiatshop wich means it cost more than the car is worth :yuck:

I think I drive her with the light on and then scrap it, bad on a perfect car tough....

Thanks to all for the replies to my original message and offers of help.

I would be interested in getting a cable and software if you can point me to the correct ones?

Thanks

you need a vagcom cable, stick it in ebay search or if you prefer to buy from a known UK distributor and avoid cheap cables from hong kong, try gendan, google will find.

Download MultiECUScan from its website, the free version can read and clear codes.
http://www.multiecuscan.net/Default.aspx

edit: For the benefit of others reading this in the future, that is applicable to 2001 onwards seicentos (multi point injection ones) - i prefer IAWScan for earlier cars (single point injection cars) over multiecuscan and you will also need a fiat 3pin to OBD adpator for them cars as well.

Any EOBD code reader will read the codes, whether blue tooth or wired, £5 or £1000.
Some cheap Chinese ones have had problems though, so research and reviews.
