Styling Best headlight bulbs?

Styling Best headlight bulbs?

Well the ones on my Sei are pretty good with normal E approved halogen bulbs.

You may need to dismantle and clean yours my fogs were so ineffective I took them off as I could not clean them internally and the clean dipped beams just cut through fog.

Note I have told the broker.

Quite apart from dazzling people some of whom may react in kind with main beam and driving lamps - if you just swap bulbs and if you get stopped and they detect lots of delinquency they will tot up the points.

It is easy to detect non E headlights.

Im seeing more people stopped than ever before.

If your head lamps are dangerously dim either drive slower or fix them proper.

What did you tell the broker?

Did you tell them you are essentially modding your front bumper because now it has either 2 hole in it and two cover plates. That's a styling mod.

As the weight of the car has now decreased, this is now a performance mod.

Aerodynamic of the car will also have changed, as air could flow through the two holes. This is a styling and performance mod.

As you say, if not they may not pay out.

Hi YCming

I emailed the broker with

'removed fog lamps'

Cause that is all I did

He and ins company know what auto I have. He has caveated the policy with

'altered lighting cluster'

Had I fitted blanking plates Id a mentioned that as well, but the dual carriage max speed is such that down force or air flow is insignificant maybe the rad might be cooler

I also said I had 'non OEM tyres' which he did not address.

If the judge asks why the answer is even a new fog was ineffective in fog and people parking by ear were damaging my rad : the OEM fogs are bling.

Thought about DRLs but I leave sides on and get lots of MPG anyway so they would be more bling.

If I find a pair of suitable fogs that work I might refit cause it is foggy.

"Had I fitted blanking plates Id a mentioned that as well, but the dual carriage max speed is such that down force or air flow is insignificant maybe the rad might be cooler"

Surely that's not for us to say but for the insurance to decide?

It's like me saying, fitted induction kit, it's insignificant so i won't tell the insurer.

What about increasing the power to weight ratio of the car due to the car is being lighten?

This is no difference than to removing rear seats.

If not, they may not pay out.

I think they should ban HID's full stop as they can be too bright and annoying even when factory fitted. People who ware glasses may notice this at night? A good set of incandescent Halogen bulbs are more than adequate for our speed limits. If you cannot see where you are going, slow down or give up driving. The only exception would be their use for main beam in separate reflectors, but being discharge lamps, the strike time may be a problem?

HiYcming

I told the broker what I did to make it non standard.

If I get pulled by Plod or Vosa I have a covernote with caveat.

So im insuring a sei minus fog lamps.

If there is an accident involving personal injury the ins company gets an independent engineer to inspect for anything that might have contributed. If the auto has been modified or not maintained or used in a way that might have contributed eg overloaded. the judge lets the insurance company off the hook.

So the owner/insurer get to pay instead.

More exactly the judge stops a fraction of your take home at source.

I don't think fog lights come under modification of lighting cluster, because they are not the main lights, only accessories. The things we have to do to cover our behinds is getting stupid.,.,.,.,. Thanks to the dumb idiots U.S of A.....

well cibe biodes were legal in the UK as a mod but only with 55w halogen for dip and main if you fitted 100 for main you were in poo.

It was legal to use dip and main together for main beam

The problem was the 100w (halogen) bulb was not approved even for a driving lamp

So strike time is not a problem leave dipped on all the time but you need to make sure you are fully type approved and tell the broker.

You are correct on specs but most people use multi coated anti reflection ones for driving or contacts.

The danger is the guy in front is dazzled thinks he sees a hazard and hits the anti locks hard.

You need to out brake him if you don't see his red lights cause you are dazzled -bang

The guy behind you needs to out brake you.

It is possible this last guy swerves and takes out the dazzling auto head on. Poetic justice.

Seen it happen it is a long time before the ambulance siren is heared... you or your passenger can be bleeding

There are ways around this, legally if you want to be pedantic about the rules. Headlamp washers are a piece of cake to install, useless ( as anyone that has them will tell you) but they can be retrofitted. Self levelling on a Seicento is utterly pointless however, my view is that if you take the time to fit the lights, spend the money to get them properly aligned and keep the lenses clean.

I'm not inexperienced with fitting HID and i've done a complete custom headlight build before, it was a pig of a job and took an entire winters supply of odd evenings to do including more than a few nights getting high on resin fumes.

As time moves on, so do the options for installation and these look like a much easier way to do things and because they mount into your reflectors, they will align without issue using the factory method.

If i get time over the winter and find a set of lights cheap enough then this may be something i'll look into. I'd rather spend the money on this than buy another pair of crap OEM new light units. You'd have to watch that the extra weight of the projectors didn't pull the reflector off its mounts but there's ways and means around that.

osram night breakers very good bulbs but do get duller over time
philips night vision plus very good

take headlight out and clean the insides if there looking cloudy use a baby bottle brush with a bit of cloth wrapped round it to get into the lamp ( as the brush is flexible and long enough ) or take the actual glass off then re seal.

i recently coated my front extra driving lights in some Granville Amber lens paint .this has made a huge difference to folk noticing the car plus gives it that euro 80s look ( some call them front fogs ) but there not technically

will be getting some of these

I have a Panda 100hp and decided to change bulbs last week. 30 smd Led sidelight bulbs with resistors from eBay, plus Ultra power 5000k headlight bulbs. £10 for Leds, £6 for resistors and £8 for headlight bulbs. No yellowness, updating the overall look. Pleased.

The transparent cover and the reflector both need to be cleaned. Otherwise driving on fog or mist or heavy rain is more difficult. The only easy way is dismantle.

If you fit brighter bulbs but don't clean the lamps then you will dazzle incoming vehicles more and dazzle your self more in fog or mist or heavy rain.

If you do clean the lamps also clean the bulbs with meths or similar. If they don't look new afterwards discard.

The lights on a stock Sei are pretty good cept for the fogs.

Most accidents happen at night or in bad visibility.

If some one dazzles you slow down carefully. Lotta kids die young. Visiting a breakers yard helps no end. Short stay in A&E helps too.
