had a spare set of LED bulbs kicking around so threw them in the brake / tail lights and all was well at first as one of mine had blown - old bulb tbh.

But now i get some funky behaviour :D

Now when the boot is closed I have working brake lights but the side lights stay off.

When you open the boot both side and brake lights work.

When the boot is closed only the centre high level brake light illuminates until you hit the brake pedal at which point all the brake lights come on but still no rear sidelights.

Is this just a weird fault with LED lights and incorrect resistance being thrown into the earth circuit? I presume that going back to standard filament bulbs will cure the 'fault'?

Try only using a pair of LEDs only for sides and then a pair only for stop. An individual LED only lights with one polarity but replacement 'bulbs' may have an additional bridge circuit to work both ways in any auto.

You would need the fiat circuit and LED circuit diagram to work out what is 'wrong'.

Fixed - it was the LED bulbs causing the short - i suspect the pins on the base don't quite line up and were touching things they shouldn't be - either way .... new filament bulbs fitted and all is well.

Thumbs up to Halfords for letting me use their awning to fit them under :)
