Any ideas what there is on the timing end of the engine that can leak, slowly?

Chii seems to like leaking coolant out from time to time. Sometimes when shes cold, and not driven far. Sometimes when shes drivnen miles and is well up to temperature.

I've only ever seen drips with the engine off, but then i don't tend to park up, get out and look with the engine on through fear of being run over (no handbrake), or through fear of overheating.

From what i can see, the water is dribbling down the timing side of the engine, and then collecting near the back of the crank pulley and then dribbling off and down the sump.

Apart my car being too low to climb under and have a decent butchers, some clot has put all manner of gaurds, belts and pulleys in the way.

Whats up there, wheres the water pump, do these engines have core plugs that may be leaking?

Confused!

how easy are both to inspect / replace?

guessing cambelt has to come off to inspect them. any idea which is more likely to the be the culprit.

i'm going to kick myself if its the water pump because i was going to replace it when i did the HG, but didnt have the cash at the time.

I had exactly the same symptoms. It was the water pump on mine. Less than £20 from the motor factor and about an hour to fit. You'll be able to see if you pull the timing cover off, there'll be lots of rusty coloured gunge under the waterpump.

you got a cock

i had a wierd and wonderful time trying to figure out why mine was leaking every so often

mine dribbled close to where you are saying,

I had very similar water leak - was a mystery as to where it was coming from but in the end it turned out to be a leaky heater matrix nowhere near where drip was coming out at.

I don't have a cock Gaz

I'm going to have a good crawl around the engine bay at the weekend, no time during the week. Just done another 12hour shift.. then a few drinkypoos in spoons - then i fell asleep on the sofa when i got back :( arc should sleep!

I'll check all mentioned points. cheers people (y)
